After Serenity parked her brand-new vehicle, she climbed into Zachary\u2019s car, where he adopted a softer tone. \u201cThis will be my first dinner at your sister\u2019s place,\u201d he said. \u201cI should probably bring her a gift. What do your sister and brother-in-law enjoy?\u201d Serenity fastened her seatbelt and replied, \u201cYou could get a toy for Sonny. As for my brother-in-law, he smokes, so a couple of packs would be good. We can also bring some fruit.\u201d \u201cGot it,\u201d Zachary replied.<\/div>\n
As they drove out of Brynfield, he asked his wife, \u201cWhere should we pick up the items?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a store not too far from here. We can stop and grab everything we need,\u201d she suggested.<\/div>\n
\u201cMr. York, did you live here before I moved in? You seem a bit unfamiliar with the area,\u201d Serenity inquired.<\/div>\n
Zachary took a moment before answering, \u201cI bought this house a long time ago, but I let it sit empty while I stayed with my parents. I thought it would be best not to take up space at my family\u2019s home after we got married, so I moved in here.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cDoes your family live in a big house?\u201d Serenity asked, curious. Since Zachary rarely discussed his family, she hadn\u2019t shown much interest in his background. However, she sensed his hesitation about sharing personal details and decided to keep her distance.<\/div>\n
\u201cOur family lives in a large house that belongs to Nana and Gramps,\u201d Zachary explained, and he was honest about it. The York family estate was indeed registered under Nana and Gramps\u2019 names. Following Gramps\u2019 passing, Nana had encouraged Zachary\u2019s father to transfer ownership of the estate to him and his uncles. However, the transfer had yet to be finalized. Zachary suspected that his father intended for the house to be passed down directly to Nana\u2019s heirs.<\/div>\n

In a bid to navigate the complexities of family dynamics, the grandchildren aimed to help the Yorks avoid getting bogged down in bureaucratic obstacles. Serenity observed that the Yorks appeared to be a middle-class family, all cohabiting under one roof. Grandma May had previously expressed her fondness for having her children and grandchildren close by. It seemed that Nana was keen on keeping the family intact, rather than scattering them across different areas of the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll take you there at a later date,\u201d Zachary suggested, preemptively offering to show Serenity the family home without her even having to ask. Legally speaking, she was his wife, and he felt it was only right to show her around the family estate. This property featured multiple buildings spread across the land, some of which served as residences for the employees. Zachary considered using one of these employee homes to create a diversion for Serenity before he revealed his true identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust give me a heads-up when you want to visit your family home,\u201d he said, flashing a grin that he quickly suppressed, worried Serenity might catch him smiling. <\/p>\n

\u201cSure.\u201d Their conversation made the journey feel shorter than it was. Soon enough, they arrived at the store that Serenity had mentioned. Entering empty-handed, they left with Zachary\u2019s arms laden with shopping bags. Despite Serenity\u2019s gentle admonition not to overdo it, Zachary wanted to make a lasting impression since this was his first visit to her sister\u2019s home. While he was indifferent to being labeled as frugal, he was determined that no one would think that Serenity had made a poor choice in marrying him.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, the sound of Serenity\u2019s phone ringing broke the moment. Assuming it was Liberty calling, she pulled out her phone only to find an unidentified number flashing on the screen. A nagging feeling told her it might be a call from the Hunts, especially since she had already blocked cousin Mike\u2019s number.<\/p>\n
