He positioned himself in a corner, observing as Serenity tackled the mountain of dishes. “You know,” he said, “we should consider hosting our next family gathering at a hotel. It would save us the hassle of cleaning up.”

“That sounds good to me.”

Serenity agreed without hesitation. Her motivation for cooking was simply to impress her in-laws, especially since it was the first time both families were getting together.

“What did Nana say to you?”

Zachary suddenly inquired.

Pausing her dishwashing, Serenity turned her gaze towards him.

As their eyes locked, Zachary noticed a mischievous glint in hers when she exclaimed, “Nana asked if we’re sleeping in separate rooms. She said that since we’re married, I should be bold and take the initiative to throw myself at you, strip you down, and…”

“Whoa!” Zachary interjected, clearly taken aback.

That certainly sounded like something Nana would say.

“Nana also mentioned that she hopes to have a great granddaughter next year. She specifically emphasized ‘great granddaughter’ and insisted we keep trying until we get a girl. She even promised me her life savings if I can deliver!”

“Wow,” Zachary replied, astounded. His grandmother’s life savings were likely worth billions. It seemed Grandma May truly held Serenity in high regard. “Did your Nana and Gramps ever have a daughter?”

Shaking his head, Zachary responded, “The last woman born into the York family was my great-grandfather’s sister, but tragically, she passed away before she turned five. Since then, we haven’t had any daughters in the family.”

In total, there were nine boys in Zachary’s family lineage.

While washing the dishes, Serenity smiled and remarked, “No wonder Nana is so generous to leave her life savings to me. It sounds like mission impossible.”

Zachary interpreted her words in a negative light, believing that Serenity had revealed her true intentions—she was after Nana’s wealth. He thought she had sweet-talked Nana into pressuring him to marry someone against his will.

Confused by the silence that followed her comment, Serenity glanced over and noticed the gloomy expression on Zachary’s face. His eyes hardened when he caught her gaze, prompting her to blink in surprise. Had she said something wrong?

“Mr. York?” she called out.

Zachary, wearing a long face, turned sharply and exited the kitchen, ignoring her completely. Once he was gone, Serenity murmured to herself, “That’s puzzling. He asked me a question, but then acted annoyed when I answered. As if I would throw myself at him! He’s like an ice king; I’d freeze to death before I could even think of getting close.”

Serenity misinterpreted Zachary’s sudden coldness as a result of Nana’s encouragement for her to pursue him.

Meanwhile, Zachary remained in his room for quite some time. Serenity, however, was unfazed. Why should she coddle a grown man like him?

Chapter 37 “Mr. York, I’m going to take care of this.” With a wave of her hand, Serenity signaled for […]

[20

post-11689","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-married-at-first-sight
["GET
