After satisfying his hunger, Zachary rummaged through his wallet, only to realize he didn\u2019t have much cash available. Eventually, he decided to pull out a debit card and placed it on the table before Serenity.<\/div>\n
Serenity raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his gesture.<\/div>\n
\u201cYou need money to buy things. This card is for you. The PIN is\u2026\u201d<\/div>\n
Zachary searched for a pen and some paper, jotting down the PIN before handing it over to Serenity.<\/div>\n
\u201cYou can use this card for household expenses. I\u2019ll transfer money into the account every month when my paycheck arrives, but I need you to keep track of what you spend. I don\u2019t mind you using the money, but I want to know what it\u2019s being spent on.\u201d<\/div>\n
When they had obtained their marriage license, Serenity had suggested they split expenses, but Zachary had declined that idea. To him, they were a married couple and essentially a family, and he didn\u2019t mind providing for her.<\/div>\n
With more money than he could easily count and an extensive array of assets, Zachary often found himself too busy with work to spend much of it. At least now, his wife could assist him in utilizing some of those funds.<\/div>\n
However, Zachary was cautious; he didn\u2019t want to be taken advantage of, as he viewed Serenity as someone who could be quite scheming.<\/div>\n
He had no issues with Serenity using the money for the house, yet he was still wary.<\/div>\n
Serenity, visibly annoyed by Zachary\u2019s demeanor, pushed the debit card and the PIN note back towards him without even glancing at the number.<\/div>\n
\u201cMr. York, I live here too. You bought this house, which means I save on rent by residing here. I can\u2019t let you take care of all the household expenses as well. I\u2019ll handle whatever is necessary for the house.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cIf any household item costs more than two thousand dollars, I\u2019ll discuss it with you. You can contribute whatever amount you think is appropriate.\u201d<\/div>\n

Zachary nodded, recognizing her determination. He admired her independence, yet he couldn\u2019t shake the feeling that he wanted to support her more. \u201cI just want to make sure you\u2019re comfortable and not overloaded with expenses,\u201d he replied, his voice softening again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand, and I truly appreciate your concern,\u201d she said, her expression warmening. \u201cBut I manage my finances well. I\u2019ve built this shop from the ground up, and I\u2019m proud of what I\u2019ve accomplished. It\u2019s important for me to maintain that sense of independence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zachary was taken aback by her confidence. It was refreshing to see someone so driven and self-sufficient. \u201cI respect that,\u201d he said thoughtfully. \u201cJust know that you don\u2019t have to do everything alone. We\u2019re in this together.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether,\u201d Serenity echoed, a smile tugging at her lips. \u201cYes, together. But that doesn\u2019t mean I won\u2019t occasionally remind you that I\u2019m perfectly capable of handling my own finances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zachary chuckled softly, realizing that this exchange had only strengthened their bond. \u201cPoint taken,\u201d he conceded. \u201cJust promise me you\u2019ll consider the car when the time is right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Serenity nodded, appreciating his persistence. \u201cI promise to think about it. But for now, I\u2019m happy with my bike,\u201d she affirmed, feeling content in her choices. <\/p>\n

As they continued their conversation, both felt a sense of understanding that would deepen their relationship, built on mutual respect and care.<\/p>\n

I have some savings for that, but I think a house is a much better investment. A house means having a home, and besides, I\u2019m not like you men who usually prefer cars.\u201d<\/p>\n

There seemed to be a noticeable difference in preferences between men and women; generally, women leaned towards choosing a house while men were more inclined to go for cars.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, by the way,\u201d Serenity continued, \u201cmy sister wants to meet you. I told her you\u2019re away on business for now, but I\u2019ll make sure to take you to see her later.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSure,\u201d Zachary replied, acknowledging her request.<\/p>\n

Once their conversation came to an end, Serenity went outside to hang the laundry while Zachary settled himself in the living room. He had intended to read the newspaper, but since he didn\u2019t have a subscription delivered to their new home, he opted to check the news on his phone instead to pass the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave you done your laundry?\u201d Serenity called out after finishing with her own.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got it covered,\u201d he responded, knowing that his clothes were typically sent to the dry cleaners.<\/p>\n

Serenity pursed her lips but chose not to press the issue further and continued with her tasks. She swept, mopped, and tidied up their newly shared space.<\/p>\n

Zachary observed her as she moved around the house, performing what he considered maid duties. He felt a tug of concern and was tempted to speak up, but after some deliberation, he decided against it. In his own home, the maids took care of household chores, while in a typical family setting, it was often the wife\u2019s responsibility to handle these tasks.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, his butler had arranged for the maids to clean the house before they moved in, so everything was immaculate. Serenity swept through the rooms, not encountering a single trace of dust. Now that she was immersed in her work, Zachary couldn\u2019t help but admire her diligence.<\/p>\n

After finishing her daily tasks, Serenity headed back to her room to freshen up. With her handbag in hand, she stepped out and addressed the man sitting on the sofa, \u201cMr. York, I\u2019m heading to my sister\u2019s place and then to the shop. What time do you expect to be home? Feel free to leave me a message, and I\u2019ll make sure the door is unlocked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll return every night unless I have business to attend to. I\u2019ll inform you in advance if I need to be away,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlright,\u201d Serenity said in response.<\/p>\n

\u201cSe-Serenity, don\u2019t forget to take the card,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n

Zachary got up from his seat, approached Serenity, and handed her a bank card, apologizing in the process. \u201cI should\u2019ve been more considerate with my tone just now. I truly apologize!\u201d<\/p>\n

Serenity looked at him thoughtfully for a moment, and sensing his sincerity, she accepted the card. She tucked it, along with the paper containing the PIN, into her pocket.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really should be going,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course,\u201d he responded.<\/p>\n

Zachary watched as Serenity exited the room. Once the door closed behind her, he exhaled deeply, feeling a sense of relief.<\/p>\n

It was clear he hadn\u2019t quite mastered the role of a husband.<\/p>\n

Returning to the sofa, Zachary picked up his phone from the coffee table and dialed the family butler. When Sam answered, he spoke in a hushed tone, \u201cSam, once the old Mrs. is awake, ask her to gather the family for dinner at Brynfield. The old Mrs. will know what this is regarding.\u201d<\/p>\n
