At this point, it was common knowledge in Aurous Hill that the Wilson family\u2019s downfall was inevitable. News that the matriarch had been hospitalized upon learning of the Wilson Group\u2019s fate also circulated quickly.<\/p>\n

Charlie\u2019s father-in-law, Jacob, received the news with an unexpected calmness.<\/p>\n

He addressed his daughter and son-in-law, saying, \u201cMy mother has always had a need to control others throughout her life. It was only a matter of time before her actions caught up with her! We shouldn\u2019t feel the least bit sympathetic. It might do her good to spend some time in the hospital reflecting on her life choices!\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie felt a sense of relief; it was uncommon for Jacob to take a step back regarding issues involving his mother.<\/p>\n

After this moment of relief, Claire quietly began her job hunt.<\/p>\n

Later that evening, after Charlie finished preparing dinner, he heard the door open behind him.<\/p>\n

Turning around, he saw Jacob entering, wearing a broad smile.<\/p>\n

Curious about Jacob\u2019s cheerful demeanor, Charlie asked, \u201cDad, why are you in such a good mood after your walk? Did something good happen?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHahaha! I\u2019ve had an incredibly lucky day!\u201d Jacob replied joyfully. \u201cAfter taking that pill you gave me, all my pain disappeared completely. I feel so refreshed and full of energy!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCan you guess who I bumped into at Antique Street just now?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho?\u201d Charlie asked, his worry rising. He feared that Jacob had fallen victim to the counterfeit dealers and stall owners at Antique Street once more.<\/p>\n

Charlie scanned Jacob\u2019s appearance and breathed a sigh of relief when he realized his father-in-law returned home empty-handed.<\/p>\n

Jacob took a sip of his tea before speaking in a conspiratorial tone, \u201cSon-in-law, do you recall the antique stall owner we visited before? I\u2019m talking about Zachary, the conman from Antique Street. Do you remember him?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I remember. What\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHaha! I ran into that kid today at Antique Street!\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie was taken aback and quickly asked, \u201cDad! Did you end up buying something from him again?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo!\u201d Jacob exclaimed, waving his hands in delight. \u201cZachary knows I\u2019m your father-in-law, so he wouldn\u2019t dare rip me off again. Instead, he gifted me a jade pendant and even offered to help me sell some medicine!\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie frowned at the news. He was skeptical about the jade pendant, suspecting it was likely fake, but he found it odd that Zachary would want to sell medicine for Jacob.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat medicine are you referring to?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pills you made for my injuries! I know they\u2019re meant to ease my heart,\u201d Jacob replied, slapping his thigh in excitement. \u201cMy injuries are fully healed! When Zachary heard about my recovery and the effectiveness of the pills, he offered to sell them for me. I gave him two pills, not thinking he would actually sell them!\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie was left speechless.<\/p>\n

The pills weren\u2019t rare or valuable, and he would have been okay with Jacob discarding them if he didn\u2019t finish them. Yet, Charlie couldn\u2019t help but be astounded by Zachary\u2019s ability to exploit any opportunity, including selling leftover medicine!<\/p>\n

\u201cDad, there\u2019s no certification for these pills. How could you possibly sell them?\u201d<\/p>\n

Jacob shrugged, \u201cI\u2019m not sure about that, but Zachary managed to sell them anyway. Want to take a guess at how much I got for them?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOver a thousand dollars?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot even close!\u201d Jacob laughed triumphantly. \u201cI sold them for half a million dollars!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPfft!\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie, who had been sipping water, couldn\u2019t contain himself and spat it out upon hearing Jacob\u2019s astonishing claim.<\/p>\n

He was in disbelief. The pills probably cost less than a hundred dollars, yet Zachary had succeeded in selling them for half a million?!<\/p>\n
