The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 52

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 52

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 52 Summary

Kiernan dismisses the conversation with Larissa, telling her to rest with her parents, signaling a finality to their interaction. Larissa responds politely but without warmth, showing her pragmatic and reserved nature. Kiernan reflects on her sharpness and lack of sentimentality, understanding that her tough upbringing has shaped her into a determined and practical young woman. He resolves to observe her closely to judge her true capabilities.

Outside, Sapphira and Neville wait anxiously for Larissa, concerned about her meeting with Kiernan. When Larissa emerges, she reassures them that her grandfather only inquired about her future plans and skills. She reveals her ambitious goal to surpass Paxton and Finley and take control of the Judson family’s pharmaceutical company and media empire. This declaration surprises her parents, who had expected more conventional aspirations, but they come to realize Larissa’s return is driven by a desire to claim her rightful place and secure their family’s future.

Meanwhile, night falls over the estate as Haskell returns home, greeted by Draven and Valeria. Draven expresses concern over Haskell’s recent accident, though his worry seems insincere. Valeria adds a layer of manipulation, blaming herself for Haskell’s disability and casting doubt on the upcoming engagement to the Judson heiress. She hints maliciously at rumors that Haskell’s injury has left him unable to have children, suggesting that his position as heir to the Palmer family might be jeopardized, introducing tension and uncertainty about the future.

With a casual wave of his hand, Kiernan dismissed the matter. “It’s late now. Go back and get some rest with your parents,” he said, his tone final.

“Alright. You should rest too, Grandpa,” Larissa replied politely, her voice calm and steady as she turned to leave the ancestral hall. She offered no further words, no extra warmth—just a quiet, respectful departure.

Kiernan let out a slow sigh and glanced at his butler, Jett. “My granddaughter really doesn’t waste time on sentimentality, does she?”

Jett smiled gently, a knowing look in his eyes. “Miss Larissa is certainly sharp. But she tends to see things in stark contrasts—black and white, with very little space for the shades in between. It’s understandable, though. A young woman who’s had to fend for herself for twenty years can’t afford to be sentimental.”

Kiernan’s face remained unreadable, his thoughts guarded as he considered her words. He would watch closely, waiting to see just how capable this granddaughter truly was.

Though Kiernan had asked them to leave, Sapphira and Neville lingered nearby, unable to shake their concern. They waited quietly in the gazebo just outside the ancestral hall, the cool night air wrapping around them.

When Larissa finally stepped out, Sapphira hurried to her side, eyes filled with worry. “Larissa, what did your grandpa say to you?”

Larissa offered a small, confident smile. “Nothing much. He asked what skills I want to learn and what my plans are for the future.”

Sapphira exhaled, relief washing over her. She had feared Kiernan might pressure Larissa to reconcile with Paxton and Vivica.

“And what did you tell him?” Neville asked, curiosity evident in his voice.

“I told him that if I can prove I’m more capable than Paxton and his son Finley, I want him to hand over the family’s pharmaceutical company and Starlight Media to me,” Larissa answered plainly, her gaze steady.

Both Neville and Sapphira were taken aback.

“I thought you’d say something like you wanted to learn piano or study foreign languages,” Sapphira admitted, a bit flustered.

“Mom, you’re underestimating me,” Larissa said firmly. “What good would those things do? I want the entire Judson family empire. Didn’t Dad say today that he wouldn’t back down from Uncle Paxton and Vivica anymore? That we have to fight for what belongs to us?”

Neville nodded in agreement. “That’s right. Your mother and I never cared about the family fortune before, but things have changed. Now that we have you, I have to secure a better future for you.”

Larissa’s grin widened. “Exactly. And for me, it’s the same. Only by taking control of all the Judson family businesses can we guarantee our future.”

Sapphira and Neville exchanged a meaningful glance. They had clearly misjudged their daughter. She hadn’t come back to the Judson family to be confined or controlled—she was here to rise and claim what was hers.

By now, night had fully settled over the estate, the sky dark and quiet.

“Where have you been so late, bro?” a voice called out.

Haskell had just returned home when Draven’s voice rang behind him. He motioned to Crispin to turn the wheelchair around.

Draven and Valeria approached, their expressions unreadable.

Valeria’s eyes locked onto Haskell with a sharp glint, a subtle hint of malice beneath her calm exterior.

Haskell ignored her stare and returned a faint, polite smile. “Just out for a walk.”

Draven looked down at Haskell’s legs, his eyes filled with what seemed like concern but felt hollow. “You should be more careful when you go out. What if you have another accident?”

Valeria quickly added, her voice tinged with fake remorse, “It’s all my fault. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be crippled. The engagement party to announce your marriage to the Judson heiress is next Saturday. I wonder if the Judson family will still go through with it now that this has happened.”

She paused, then leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a whisper. “After all, the rumor is that you didn’t just injure your legs—you’ve also lost the ability to have children. The position of heir to the Palmer family will surely be passed to someone else.”
