Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 24 Summary
Honora sends a message to Haskell, confessing that she is not the real Judson daughter and that her grandfather wants the real daughter to marry him instead. She expresses her disappointment but promises to find someone to heal Haskell’s legs, despite knowing their engagement might be over. Haskell responds with a sarcastic but indifferent message, indicating that their union was never meant to be.
Honora, troubled by the situation, reflects on Haskell’s accident and the fact that many top doctors have deemed his condition hopeless. She resents the idea that Larissa, an unrefined girl, claims she can heal him. Feeling vulnerable and uncertain about her future, Honora decides to stop dwelling on the matter and focus on securing her own position.
The next morning, Larissa prepares for breakfast where Sapphira brings up the upcoming engagement party with the Palmer family. Sapphira explains that the party was originally for Honora and Haskell’s wedding plans but now concerns Larissa marrying Haskell instead. Larissa confirms she is serious about marrying Haskell, seeing it as a valuable alliance with the powerful Palmer family.
Sapphira expresses some doubt due to Haskell’s disability but asks Larissa if she is confident in her ability to heal his legs. Larissa’s determination and ambition are clear as she sees the marriage as a chance to secure her future and is attracted to Haskell’s status and looks. The chapter ends with the question of whether Larissa can truly heal Haskell’s legs.
It was from Honora.
[Haskell, I have to tell you something. I’m not the real Judson daughter. The real one is back now, and my grandpa wants her to be the one to marry you. What should I do? I’ve been looking forward to our engagement so much, I never thought this would happen… But don’t worry, Haskell. Even if I can’t marry you, I’ll find someone to cure your legs!]
A sarcastic smile touched Haskell’s lips. If he hadn’t already known about Honora and her adoptive parents‘ scheme, he might have actually been moved by her seemingly heartfelt words.
He replied:
[Is that so? Well, it doesn’t matter. I suppose it just wasn’t meant to be.]
Fresh from her shower, Honora lay on her bed, staring at Haskell’s text with a complicated expression.
She truly wanted to marry him. But why did he have to have that accident and end up a cripple?
The thought that their engagement would now fall into the hands of Larissa made her burn with injustice. And Larissa had the audacity to claim she could heal Haskell’s legs?
Impossible!
She had heard from Valeria Palmer that since Haskell’s accident, the Palmer family had consulted countless famous doctors from all over the country, and every single one had said his condition was
hopeless.
She refused to believe that Larissa, some unrefined girl, could succeed where renowned specialists
had failed.
Honora tossed her phone aside, deciding not to dwell on it. She was now just the adopted daughter, at risk of losing everything at any moment. She couldn’t afford to gamble on whether Haskell’s legs would ever heal. She had to use her current advantages to build a more secure future for herself.
…
The next morning, Larissa woke up, got ready, and went downstairs for breakfast.
At the table, Sapphira took a sip of her coffee and brought up the shocking topic from the night before–the marriage alliance with Haskell.
“Larissa,” she began, “I didn’t get a chance to tell you, but the engagement party is scheduled for next Saturday night.”
Larissa nodded.
Sapphira continued, “The Palmer family is the most powerful and respected family in Regal City. Before you came, Honora was indeed engaged to Haskell, so next Saturday’s party was originally meant to discuss their wedding date. But last night, you mentioned that Paxton and Vivica’s real reason for bringing you back was for you to marry into the Palmer family in Honora’s place.”

Larissa calmly nodded again. “Yes, that’s what Honora told me.”
Sapphira frowned, her gaze fixed on Larissa. “So, when you said you were willing to marry Haskell, you weren’t joking?”
A slight smile played on Larissa’s lips as she nodded once more. “Of course not. I was serious.”
Sapphira paused for a moment before asking, “May I ask why? Marriage is a serious matter, after all.”
Larissa’s eyes twinkled. “Mom, you said it yourself. The Palmers are the biggest family in Regal City, and Haskell is their heir. What’s not to like about marrying him?”
“And most importantly,” she thought, “he’s devastatingly handsome.”
Sapphira sighed. “If Haskell hadn’t had his accident and become disabled, it would be an excellent match. And Honora would never have let you take her place.” She paused, then asked, “You said you could heal his legs. Are you confident?”
