The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 20

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 20

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 20 Summary

Sapphira firmly agreed to something, and unexpectedly, Larissa declared her willingness to marry Haskell. Neville and Sapphira were shocked and asked her to repeat herself. Larissa calmly confirmed her decision, despite the fact that Haskell had recently become paralyzed from the waist down due to a terrible accident. Sapphira tried to dissuade her, explaining the difficult situation, but Larissa confidently said she was a skilled healer and believed she could cure him. Sapphira, taken aback by Larissa’s resolve, decided to postpone the discussion and asked her to pick out some clothes.

Meanwhile, Honora was struggling with rejection, as someone close to her—presumably Larissa—refused to accept her. Vivica expressed her frustration at this ungratefulness, while Leopold reassured Honora that she didn’t need to humble herself for anyone and that he, along with their parents, insisted she stay. Honora’s modest concern for Leopold’s burden softened his anger into affection. Vivica criticized the other person’s shamelessness, and Paxton was suspicious about what might happen at dinner.

At the Judson family dining room, everyone awaited Kiernan’s arrival, but Sapphira and Larissa were missing. Leopold asked about them, and Neville explained that Sapphira was changing Larissa into new outfits that had arrived late. Paxton and Vivica expressed doubts about adopting Larissa, seeing her behavior as a tantrum, but Neville insisted that Larissa’s ID was already being transferred and that the adoption was underway. Paxton admitted they had been too harsh on Larissa initially and hoped things would improve once she adjusted and got along with Honora, but Neville warned that as long as they dismissed Larissa’s feelings, she would never accept them.

Finally, Larissa and Sapphira arrived, catching everyone’s attention. Larissa wore a bright orange dress that made her appear vibrant and confident. Leopold, remembering his parents’ instructions, smiled and invited her to join them, having saved a seat for her at the table.

Sapphira nodded firmly. “Right.”

To their surprise, Larissa spoke up. “Dad, Mom, I’m willing to marry Haskell.”

Neville and Sapphira stared at her, both asking in unison, “What did you say?”

Larissa repeated, her voice steady, “I’m willing to marry Haskell.”

Sapphira, recovering from her shock, said urgently, “Larissa, you’ve only just arrived. You don’t understand the situation with the Palmer family. A few months ago, Haskell was the most sought–after bachelor in Regal City. But he was in a terrible accident last month. His legs are paralyzed. He can’t walk anymore.”

Larissa smiled calmly. “I know. But it’s alright. I’m a skilled healer. I’m confident I can cure him.”

Seeing her unwavering confidence, Sapphira didn’t know what to say. After a moment, she sighed. “Let’s not talk about this right now. Pick out some clothes first.”

“Honora, she didn’t take the clothes?” Vivica asked, her eyes narrowing as she saw the dirty, crumpled shopping bags in Honora’s hands.

Honora looked hurt. “No… She still won’t accept me.”

“She is so ungrateful!” Leopold fumed. “Honora, you don’t have to humble yourself for her ever again. It’s not necessary.”

“I just don’t want you to have to bear all the pressure on your own, bro,” Honora said demurely.

Her words melted Leopold’s anger into affection. “Don’t be silly. It’s a brother’s duty to protect his sister. So don’t do things like this anymore. Mom, Dad, and I are the ones who insisted you stay. You don’t have to answer to her.”

“She really is shameless!” Vivica added impatiently.

Paxton’s expression was grim. “We’ll see what she’s up to at dinner tonight.”

At the Judson family dining room, everyone was seated, waiting for Kiernan to arrive. Besides the patriarch, Sapphira and Larissa were also absent.

Leopold checked his watch. “Uncle, it’s getting late. Where are Aunt Sapphira and Larissa?”

“Sapphira had a couple of new outfits delivered for Larissa. They arrived a bit late. They’ll be here as soon as she’s changed,” Neville explained.

“Neville, that’s not exactly fair, is it?” Paxton said. “Larissa is my and Vivica’s daughter. She was just throwing a tantrum. You’re not seriously going to adopt her, are you?”

“Larissa wasn’t throwing a tantrum,” Neville replied coolly. “Her ID has already been given to our dad to handle the transfer.”

“Neville, our dad was just angry today. He wouldn’t really do something so rash. Vivica and I have reflected on our behavior. We were too hard on Larissa when she first arrived. From now on, we’ll go along with what she wants. Once she’s been here for a while and sees how good Honora is, I’m sure they’ll get along.”

Neville gave him a weary look. “Paxton, as long as you continue to believe Larissa is just ‘throwing a tantrum,‘ she will never accept you.”

Just then, Larissa and Sapphira arrived. All eyes in the room turned to them. Larissa was wearing a vibrant orange dress that made her look energetic and bold.

Remembering his parents‘ instructions, Leopold forced a smile and stood up, waving at her. “Larissa, come over here. I saved a seat for you.”
