The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 12

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 12

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 12 Summary

Paxton feels deeply uncomfortable as Kiernan harshly confronts him about Honora, insisting that despite a paternity test proving no blood relation, Honora has been part of their family for twenty years. Kiernan angrily reveals that Honora’s mother actually stole Paxton’s real daughter, Larissa, and brought her into their home, which shocks everyone. He then approaches Larissa, who stands confidently and unafraid, showing remarkable strength despite her difficult past.

Kiernan firmly declares himself Larissa’s true grandfather and vows to support her even if Paxton refuses to acknowledge her. Larissa responds with a witty remark about her family’s foolishness, which embarrasses Paxton and intensifies Vivica’s disdain toward Larissa. Leopold steps protectively in front of Honora, but Kiernan’s anger only grows, and he threatens to throw everyone out of the house rather than let Larissa leave the family.

Kiernan scolds his second son and daughter-in-law for their misplaced loyalty to Honora over Larissa, accusing them of wasting the family fortune on a criminal’s child. He declares that if Larissa leaves, the entire family should leave with her. Faced with this fury, Vivica is speechless, Paxton remains silent, and Leopold glares resentfully at Larissa, who defiantly responds with a rude gesture.

Kiernan coldly allows Vivica to keep Honora but insists she must not bother Larissa anymore. He affirms Larissa’s place in the Judson estate as her true home and tells her to ignore her biological parents and brother. Inspired by this, Larissa proposes to recognize Uncle Neville and Aunt Sapphira as her real parents instead, since she carries the Judson bloodline.

Chapter 12

Paxton’s cheeks flushed a deep shade of crimson, clearly uncomfortable. “Dad, please don’t say things like that,” he pleaded. “We already did a paternity test—Honora isn’t related to me by blood. It’s just that she’s been part of our family for twenty years. We care about her, that’s all.”

“Fool!” Kiernan snapped sharply. “If you had simply found her abandoned on the street, that would be one thing! But her mother actually stole your real daughter and brought her into this house! Have you all lost your senses?” With that, Kiernan strode purposefully over to Larissa, scrutinizing her face. Just as Jett had described, despite the hardships she had endured growing up, Larissa held herself with a remarkable confidence and strength. She showed no trace of fear, even within the imposing walls of this grand estate. Her eyes, especially, shone with an extraordinary brightness and unyielding spirit.

A remarkable young woman indeed.

Kiernan gave her shoulder a firm, approving pat. “My dear granddaughter, I am your grandfather. Your father may be a fool, but I am not. If he refuses to recognize you, then I will!”

Larissa returned his smile with a hint of mischief. “Grandpa, if it weren’t for you, Uncle Neville, and Aunt Sapphira’s reasonable heads, I’d be wondering how a family full of fools like the Judsons ever rose to power in Regal City.”

At her sharp words, Paxton’s face drained of color, turning pale with embarrassment. Vivica’s disdain for her daughter only grew stronger. Leopold instinctively stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Honora, as if to shield her from Kiernan’s fierce anger.

Kiernan chuckled darkly at Larissa’s remark. “Don’t worry, Larissa. Today, I will make sure justice is done! I’d sooner throw every last one of them out of this house than allow you to leave this family!”

“Grandpa…” Leopold began to protest.

“Silence!” Kiernan cut him off coldly. “You’re the first one who should be kicked out! Why wasn’t it you who got switched? Maybe a few years of hardship would have taught you some sense. Then we’d see if you’d still be so foolish.”

Leopold fell silent, unable to respond.

Turning his fury toward his second son and daughter-in-law, Kiernan’s voice grew even harsher. “And you two! ‘Feelings from twenty years,’ you say? I haven’t even started scolding you for wasting this family’s fortune to raise a criminal’s child, and now you claim your feelings for her run deeper than for your own blood? You were willing to throw my granddaughter out for that girl’s sake?”

“If my precious granddaughter walks away, then this entire family can pack up and leave with her!” Kiernan declared fiercely.

Confronted with Kiernan’s wrath, Vivica stood frozen, unable to find words. Paxton dared not speak in his own defense. Leopold clenched his fists tightly, shooting a resentful glare at Larissa.

Larissa caught his hostile look, raised her hand to her hip, and defiantly flipped him the middle finger, silently mouthing the word: “Idiot.”

Tch. Blaming her for his own foolishness?

Finally, Vivica found her voice. “But what about Honora…?” she asked hesitantly.

“Keep her if you want,” Kiernan replied coldly, “but from now on, she is not to bother my granddaughter!” He turned back to Larissa with a firm expression. “It’s settled. You’re staying here. Pay no attention to your parents, your brother, or their adopted daughter. From this moment forward, the Judson estate is your true home.”

An idea flickered in Larissa’s mind. “Grandpa, I don’t want to recognize them as my parents anymore. Since I have Judson blood, what if I were to acknowledge Uncle Neville and Aunt Sapphira as my real parents instead?”
