Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 98
Chapter 98
Roderick refused domineeringly, raised his glass, and took a sip
himself. His Adam’s apple bobbed as the red wine slid down his
throat.
It made Madeleine’s mouth water.
Since they arrived, Roderick had only let her drink juice, not even
letting her touch champagne. She couldn’t have anything with
alcohol.
Madeleine didn’t understand.
Even though she didn’t have her memories from the last eight
years, she was still in her twenties. What was wrong with having
a drink!
“Why is it one law for me, another for thee? Why can’t I have a
drink?”
Roderick glanced at her, sighing helplessly at her fuming
expression.
“I’m afraid you’ll go home and hit our child.”

“Me?
How could I? Kev is so well–behaved and adorable!”
Roderick paused for a moment again.
“But I can’t handle you when you’re drunk.”
Madeleine’s eyes widened, “I get crazy when I’m drunk?
Don’t you slander me. How could I? And is my tolerance really
that bad?”
“You have amnesia, of course you don’t remember how bad
your tolerance is.”
“Really? Just how bad is it?”
Roderick watched Madeleine look up at him with a curious
expression, and the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but lift.
He suddenly felt like teasing her, frowning and clicking his
tongue before saying, “Let’s just say, one time I had been
drinking, and you insisted on coming over to kiss me. And what
happened? You couldn’t handle the alcohol…”
“No, wait a minute!”
Chapter 98
Madeleine was startled by how forward that was. She turned
her head to look around, and only continued in a hushed voice
when she saw no one was paying attention.
“I insisted on kissing you?
You must be making that up.”
Roderick spread his hands. “If you say so. Anyway, you’ve done
plenty of things you won’t admit to since we were kids.”
Madeleine was extremely annoyed.
Now that she was missing eight years of memories, she had no
way to argue with whatever Roderick made up about her.
Madeleine crossed her arms in frustration, then suddenly
remembered something.
“That’s not right. How could I get drunk just from kissing you
when you’ve been drinking? I don’t believe it. Didn’t you drink a
lot that night too? I was fine after we kissed.”
After mumbling this out, Madeleine looked into Roderick’s eyes again and instantly saw his cunning, foxy gaze.
But it was too late. Roderick lowered his head and leaned in

close.
“Oh, so you do remember what happened that night.”
Madeleine’s face turned bright red. “I wasn’t drinking, of course
I remember. But you…”
Roderick sighed. “I was just worried you’d feel awkward. After
all, you’re still just a silly little girl of eighteen.”
“Go away!”
Madeleine pushed him back defiantly.
“What silly little girl? You’re not allowed to call me that.”
Roderick raised an eyebrow and stepped closer to her again, his
every move filled with aggression. “So?
Are you implying I can take… further action?”
Madeleine: !
!
!
A bell went off in her head.
Chapter 98
What the hell is that damn man talking about? This is a public
place, can’t he be more careful?
Madeleine’s face was completely red. She shot Roderick a
harsh glare and ran off.
Roderick watched her go with a light laugh, shaking his head
and sighing. “See? Just a silly little girl. Can’t take a little
teasing.”
By the time the dinner ended and they were in the car,
Madeleine still hadn’t recovered from Roderick’s risqué
language.
Roderick teased her a few more times, but Madeleine was too
distracted to even look him in the eye.
Roderick felt helpless; how had he teased the kid into silence?
“Ahem.”
He cleared his throat and got down to business, “Did you talk to
Edward?”
He had been reluctant to let Madeleine go, but that girl had

always been headstrong. When she decided on something, she
would see it through.
Knowing Edward wouldn’t believe the news Roderick had
spread, Madeleine planned to go and add fuel to the fire.
She just had to act a little unnatural in front of Edward, and no
matter what she said, he would think Roderick was up to
something.
A suspicious and arrogant man like him would only believe
what he saw with his own eyes.
Madeleine gave Roderick the gist of her conversation with
Edward, swinging her phone with a smug look on her face.
“Twenty million. My little slush fund just got bigger.”
After she said that, her smile faded a bit and she sighed.
“But it’s nothing compared to the harm done to my parents and
the company’s long–time employees.”
Roderick couldn’t stand seeing her look so pitiful. His heart melted instantly as he cupped the back of her head, stroking it gently.
