Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 96
Madeleine’s movements were clumsy. In her current memory,
this was the first time she had ever fixed a man’s tie.
She had no idea what was up with Ricki’s tie. It was perfectly
fine a second ago, but then he claimed it was crooked and
loose, insisting she fix it.
That’s about right. Madeleine took half a step back and leaned
back to look.
“It’s good now.”
Roderick’s lips curved into a smile as he reached out and pulled
her back into his arms.
“Thanks, wifey.”
That one word, “wifey,” almost maxed out Madeleine’s anger
meter.
It was true she was his wife, but accepting this identity so
openly was still a bit difficult.
Madeleine used two fingers to try and pry Roderick’s hand off

her waist, but he said coolly, “They’re all waiting to see the joke.
of me being cheated on. You could at least play along.”
Madeleine pouted.
“Didn’t you say you wanted to make up for past mistakes?
Now’s your chance.”
Roderick finished, a wicked grin on his face.
He knew Madeleine couldn’t possibly refuse if he said that.
Madeleine sighed helplessly to herself, letting him keep his arm
around her, looking happy and in love.
For some reason, she felt like she’d walked right into a trap.
Two minutes later, Madeleine’s eyes widened as she suddenly
realized something.
“Ricki, you saw Edward just now, so you did that on purpose,
didn’t you!”
Ricki said nothing, just gloated and snickered to himself.
Chapter 96
Outside the back door of the banquet hall, Edward leaned
against a pillar, a lit cigarette glowing in his hand.
His second one.
He’d thought the woman would chase right after him the
moment he stepped out.
After all, from past experience, wherever he was, she’d stick to
him.
Like a persistent leech.
Ready to head back after this cigarette, Edward irritably blew
out a long stream of smoke.
Suddenly, his gaze froze, fixed on a woman not far away who
had stopped a waiter.
Madeleine had her back to him. He couldn’t tell what she said to
the waiter, but her eyes scanned the tray in his hand before she
furtively picked up a drink.
Edward scoffed and flicked the ash from his cigarette.
He’d overestimated her. She was still the same, now resorting
to drugging drinks.
Chapter 96
A wave of contempt mixed with a subtle hint of smugness
washed over Edward. He dropped his cigarette, crushed it with
his foot, and strode toward Madeleine.
Madeleine was a little nervous holding the drink, completely
unaware of Edward approaching from behind.
Just as she was about to turn, her arm was grabbed. She
looked at the man before her and cursed inwardly: Shit!
Can’t get rid of this guy.
Edward’s lips curved into a smirk as he looked at Madeleine,
trying to find proof in her panicked eyes that she was still
obsessed with him.
“What are you doing? Let go of me! My husband will get the
wrong idea if he sees this!”
“Your husband?”
Edward laughed. “You really think that line still works?”
With that, his hand moved to the glass Madeleine was holding
and he took it from her.
He swirled the glass and said in a low voice, “What did you put

in here? A sedative?
Or… an aphrodisiac.”
What the hell?
Madeleine’s brain short–circuited for a moment. She couldn’t
help but roll her eyes when she looked at the glass of red wine.
She might as well just hand the pen to Edward and let him write
With an imagination like that, he should be contributing to our
country’s cultural industry.
She snatched the red wine from him irritably and shot him a
sideways glance.
“Get over yourself. Spend money to buy you medicine?
You wish.”
Edward’s smile froze.
How did this woman’s way of speaking change so much?
He couldn’t help but look Madeleine up and down again, his
mind filled with confusion.
Chapter 96
“What on earth are you doing?”
“I should be asking you that, Edward. Just how long are you
going to be so shameless?”
Edward was so angry he almost laughed, practically radiating
fury.
“Me, shameless?
Fine, go on. I’d love to hear just how I’m so shameless.”
Madeleine started counting on her fingers:
“Let’s start from when you were a kid. My family sponsored
your education. Did you ever pay us back?”
Edward snorted. “Didn’t you say all that nice stuff about charity
and not expecting anything in return?”
Madeleine nodded. “Fine, you don’t have to pay us back. But
you didn’t have to be an ungrateful bastard. What was the deal
with driving my family into bankruptcy?”
She was so furious she wanted to stomp on Edward’s foot with
her high heel.
“My parents had to move from a mansion into a small house. Is
Chapter 96
that any way to treat your benefactors?”
