Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 89
Rebecca crossed her arms, looking at Madeleine with a
speechless expression.
You’re Roderick’s wife, after all. Can’t you show a little of the
CEO’s wife’s presence?
What surprised Madeleine was that Dannie had actually been
brought in by Rebecca.
Did Roderick tell her what happened at the amusement park
that day?
Dannie came forward, grabbing Madeleine’s arm with a tear-
streaked face. “It’s all my fault for being blind to a person of
great importance, for being so clueless as to say those awful things. Mrs. Livingston, please don’t take it to heart.”
Dannie’s grip was strong, and Madeleine’s arm hurt where she
was being held. She frowned and hissed in pain.
Rebecca thought she wasn’t taking it seriously, and her tone
was clearly impatient.
“I’m telling you, Madeleine, you’re Roderick’s a formally and

legitimately wedded wife. You’re not angry that someone
pointed at you and called you the mistress?
Can you show some backbone?”
“Who says I’m not angry!”
Madeleine, annoyed, yanked her hand away from Dannie’s.
She looked at her coldly. “If you were truly sorry, you would have
said so at the amusement park that day. Why wait until today?”
Dannie was at a loss for words.
How could she have known her husband would be
investigated? How could she have known the whole family’s
plan to go abroad would be ruined because of that incident!
Dannie couldn’t hold back her tears and started crying.
“Yes, it’s all my fault. I’m begging you, be the bigger person,
please don’t stoop to my level. My Mr. Eleanor has already been
taken away, the Eleanor family is finished. Mrs. Livingston,
please be merciful and let us go…”
As Dannie’s tearful voice rang out, the onlookers all turned their
gazes to Madeleine.

Now everyone understood what was going on.
So she got taught a lesson for offending Daquan!
Hey, who was it that spread the rumor about the CEO and his
wife not getting along?
Rumors, pure rumors!
Madeleine took a step back, putting distance between herself
and Dannie. Her face was expressionless, and her eyes were
calm to the point of being detached.
“If he was arrested, he must have done something. What’s the
use in begging me?”
“Yes, yes, I know. Mr. Eleanor’s business dealings were… not
exactly clean. He deserved to be arrested. But my son is
innocent, Mrs. Livingston, please spare him.”
That little chubby kid?
Madeleine didn’t know what had happened and just turned to
look at Rebecca.
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t she say that day she’d make
it so our little Kevin couldn’t go to kindergarten? So I just made
Chapter 89
a call and made it so her son can’t go either.”
Her tone was casual, as if she had just done a small favor, but a
flash of coldness crossed her eyes.
That’s the little Kevin she watched grow up. How dare she
threaten him?
Did she think his aunt was a nobody?
Hearing this, Dannie cried even harder, almost falling to her
knees. “Mrs. Livingston, Miss Su, it was my big mouth!
I deserve to die!
My son is only five, he doesn’t know anything!
I’m begging you, don’t drag him into this…”
Seeing Dannie about to come forward and grab her again,
Madeleine stopped her approach with an icy glare.
“Dannie, your husband is being investigated. That’s his problem.
Your son can’t go to school because of your own big mouth.”
She paused, her voice turning cool. “The person you should
apologize to isn’t me, it’s my son.”
Chapter 89
Dannie froze, then quickly understood and nodded repeatedly.
“Yes, yes, yes!
I’ll go apologize to your son right now!”
“There’s no need.”
Madeleine cut her off coolly, “My son doesn’t need your
apology. You just need to remember that words have
consequences.”
After speaking, she turned her gaze to Rebecca.
“Her son can’t go to kindergarten anymore?”
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. “At least no school in the city will
dare to take him now.”
Madeleine looked back at Dannie, mimicking Rebecca’s
eyebrow raise.
“Did you hear that?”
Dannie looked dazed for a moment, taking a while to
understand what Madeleine meant.
“I… I heard!
Chapter 89
Mrs. Livingston, Rebecca, don’t worry. I’ll take my son to the
Countryside right now and never set foot in the city again.”
Rebecca waved her hand dismissively. “Get lost.”
Once Dannie had scrambled away, Rebecca scoffed, “Her
husband’s in trouble. You think she can get away?
It won’t be long before her son becomes an orphan with no one
to care for him.”
Madeleine had no interest in the future of people like that. She
just looked at Rebecca and spoke after a moment.
“Want to get some coffee?
The cafe downstairs, my treat.”
Rebecca knew she wanted to talk, so she asked playfully,
“Madeleine, are you openly skipping work? You’re going to get
your pay docked!”
