Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 84
Chapter 84
Didn’t we just see each other? He’s pretty quick to call.
Seeing Madeleine’s expression, Roderick immediately guessed
who was calling. He deliberately continued his pull–down
exercise.
“Answer it. Put it on speaker.”
“Oh.”
Madeleine did as she was told, answering and putting it on
speaker. She held the phone up in front of Roderick, and
Rebecca’s serious voice immediately came through.
“Where are you?”
“Home.”
“Come to the office. Something’s happened.”
Roderick paused, his gaze instantly turning sharp.
“What’s wrong?”
Chapter 84
Rebecca seemed to be driving; a couple of annoyed honks
came through the phone. She said irritably, “Ask your wife if
she’s the one who leaked the new product launch plan.”
She almost dropped the phone.
Madeleine’s eyes went wide. She looked at Roderick with an
expression of shock and innocence, which then turned to
indignation.
What did that have to do with her!
?
Roderick stood up, took the phone, and said in a low voice, “It
wasn’t her. Don’t jump to conclusions.”
“Tsk, I knew you’d be fiercely protective of one’s own. But
Roderick, this isn’t the first time this has happened. Having her
at the company is like planting a time bomb. She just started at the office on Friday, and today Edward’s team has already used
our plan ahead of us. Does that seem reasonable to you? I think
it’s just…”
“Enough!”
Roderick’s tone hardened. He looked up and met Madeleine’s

eyes, his voice serious.
“I believe it wasn’t her. Let’s meet at the office in half an hour
and talk.”
Not wanting Madeleine to hear anything more from Rebecca,
Roderick threw that line out and hung up.
“I’m going to the office. I’ll be back soon. Don’t work out while
I’m gone, you could get hurt.”
Madeleine nodded blankly, looking a little lost.
Roderick had already started to leave, but he couldn’t help
turning back to stroke her head.
“Don’t worry. You won’t be wrongly accused.”
Madeleine stood there in a daze for several minutes after
Roderick left.
Rebecca’s words were still ringing in her head.
She seemed to understand why Rebecca was so hostile
towards her.
She and the other secretaries in the office all thought
Madeleine had come to the company as a spy.
Chapter 84
Scheming and plotting every step of the way, all for that bastard
Edward.
Madeleine clenched her fists.
Damn it.
What the hell is with that Edward guy.
With that in mind, Madeleine decided to look up information
about Edward online. After all, you have to know your enemy to
win the battle.
Her impression of Edward was stuck back when he was just a
poor student.
“My phone… Ah, Ricki, you bastard, why’d you put my phone up
so high?”
Annoyed, she moved a stool over, and it took Madeleine a while
to finally free her phone from the power rack.
She typed “Edward” into the search bar, and the page
immediately filled with dense, related information.
She clicked on the top result, a Wikipedia page, and a formal
photo of him in a suit was the first thing she saw.
Chapter 84
The man in the photo had deep–set eyes, a sharp jawline, and
the faintest hint of a smile on his lips.
Madeleine stared at the familiar yet strange face, her fingers
tightening unconsciously.
[Edward, male, 27, current Chairman and CEO of the Carroll
Group.
Named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list in 2023, and
recognized as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young
Entrepreneurs of the Year in 2024…]
She quickly scrolled down the screen, her eyes stopping on the
‘Early Life‘ section.
[Edward was born in a remote mountainous area. His parents
passed away, and his family was poor.
In high school, due to his excellent grades, he received a
scholarship from Richard Mosley, the chairman of the Mosley
Group, which allowed him to complete his studies.
In 2017, he was admitted to the Finance Department of Capital
University as the Top Scorer in the National College Entrance
Exam…^
Chapter 84
Madeleine’s fingers trembled slightly. She kept scrolling down.
and then saw a jarring piece of text.
[In 2023, a capital acquisition led by Edward caused the Mosley
Group’s capital chain to break, leading to its eventual
bankruptcy.
Richard was placed under a high–spending restriction due to
debt issues, and all assets of the Mosley family were
liquidated.]
Madeleine’s eyes turned a little red.
She never dared to think too much about her family’s
bankruptcy; on one hand, she couldn’t accept it.
On the other hand, she felt completely powerless.
If she really did help the villain and cause her family’s
bankruptcy, what could she do now?
The current Madeleine only has the memories of her eighteen-
year–old self. She couldn’t do anything.
Madeleine’s fingertips trembled on the screen, the cold
electronic light reflecting on her pale face.
