The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 79

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 79

Rebecca clicked her tongue.

Well now, she’s learned to coach her kid on what to say.

Meanwhile, when Roderick heard Madeleine’s “You came so

obediently,” his brain froze like a stuck clockwork.

A moment later, when Rebecca came in, it dawned on Roderick.

Madeleine must have seen the message from Rebecca.

Did she mistake her catchphrase for a nickname for herself?

Tsk…

What is she thinking about all day?

Rebecca came in holding Kevin and was blocked by Madeleine,

who was about to leave. She glanced at her with a half–smile,

didn’t even say hello, and just walked around her to go inside.

“Owen, I haven’t been here in a few days, and your little

courtyard is even more beautiful. Mrs. Miller takes such good

care of it.”

Chapter 79

Owen’s expression was gentle, and when he heard her mention

Mrs. Miller, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but lift

slightly.

“She’s pregnant and doesn’t have much to do at home, so she

likes to potter around with these flowers and plants.”

Rebecca went and sat on the sofa, speaking slowly.

“Yeah, it’s nice to have nothing to do and just plant flowers and

raise fish at home. Just don’t go getting a job or something and

stir up trouble.”

As soon as Madeleine heard that, she sensed something was

off.

Was she overthinking it, or did it feel like that comment was a

jab at her?

If she wasn’t overthinking it.

This Rebecca must have a grudge against her!

Madeleine couldn’t hide her feelings. She took the fruit platter,

sat down to the side, and started eating.

After a couple of bites, she remembered this was for Kevin.

Chapter 79

She looked up and saw the little guy happily chatting with

Rebecca.

Oh well, he’s busy talking, how could he remember the plate of

fruit in his old mom’s hands?

She might as well eat it all herself.

So Madeleine just sat in the corner, stuffing her mouth with bite

after bite from the fork, her cheeks puffed out.

Roderick caught sight of her from the corner of his eye and

could barely suppress a smile.

“I heard from your dad that you’ve been helping him with a new

project recently?

You’re helping out the group on one hand and doing things for

your dad on the other. Don’t wear yourself out.”

Owen’s tone was full of concern. Madeleine had noticed long

ago that Owen really liked this Rebecca.

The way he was talking to Rebecca right now, wasn’t it just like

how he used to talk to her?

What a tragedy. After these eight years, she’d really become

someone everyone despised.

“It’s not that busy, just a small project not worth mentioning. Besides, Owen, when I can’t handle it, won’t your son have to help me anyway?”

“That’s true. If you need Roderick to do anything, just say the word. If he dares not to help you, you tell me.”

“Yes, yes, whatever you say, Owen.”

Rebecca said with a smile, deliberately looking over at

Madeleine.

Huh?

Is she blowing up a balloon? Why are her cheeks so puffed up?

Is she angry?

I don’t think so. Owen used to say this kind of stuff all the time,

secretly trying to see if he could set her up with Roderick.

Owen never held back around Madeleine, because he simply

didn’t care.

The atmosphere in the room was strange. Roderick interrupted

their small talk and asked Rebecca why she was here today.

Chapter 79

“I came to see Owen and Mrs. Miller, and to chat a bit about the

subsidiary.”

As she spoke, Rebecca glanced over at Madeleine, pausing for

a couple of seconds.

Both Roderick and his father understood what Rebecca meant.

Although Roderick was unhappy, he could only look at

Madeleine now.

“Take Kev out to the yard to play for a bit, hmm?”

He was afraid Madeleine would feel uncomfortable, so he did

his best to lower his voice and keep his tone gentle.

But Madeleine was sharp. She knew at a glance that they

wanted to get her out of the room.

Without saying a word, Madeleine obediently put down the

plate, walked over, took Kevin’s little hand, and went outside.

Roderick’s brow was furrowed, his gaze following the mother

and son out the door.

He badly wanted to get up and follow them, to tell her not to

worry about any of this.

Chapter 79

But a warning glance from his father made him stay put.

This was terrible. She had already misunderstood, and now he

would have to find a way to make it up to her later.

Madeleine led her son by the hand into the small courtyard,

feeling a bit unsettled.

A little sour.

Could it be that she was jealous from seeing her son so close

to Rebecca?
