Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 76
Madeleine said tentatively, “Actually, I’ve decided to live a good
life with Roderick from now on. I won’t go after Edward
anymore.”
“What?”
Mrs. Miller exclaimed, her hand trembling as she poured the
tea, causing it to spill.
Looking at her face again, it was clearly a bit pale.
Such a big reaction?
Could it be that me not being with Edward was such a huge
deal to her?
“Maddie, why did you suddenly change? Don’t you like Edward?”
Mrs. Miller’s mood suddenly became very agitated.
She suddenly grabbed Madeleine’s wrist, a bit forcefully,
desperate to find an answer.
Madeleine winced and pulled her hand back, saying firmly, “I

don’t like Edward anymore, Mrs. Miller. I don’t like him now.”
Those words seemed to hit Mrs. Miller hard. Her face changed again, her expression pained, and she raised a hand to press
hard against her head.
“Mrs. Miller?”
Madeleine froze, then quickly stepped forward to ask, “What’s
wrong with you?”
“You don’t like him… How could that be?”
“No, impossible. You’re supposed to like Edward.”
“Ah… my head hurts so much.”
Seeing Mrs. Miller like this, an image of Edward in the haunted
house flashed through Madeleine’s mind.
Wasn’t she just like this back then? A sudden, splitting
headache without any warning, like her brain was about to
explode.
What happened back then?
Madeleine gritted her teeth and recalled that scene. She was in
Edward’s arms at the time, wanting to push him away, but for

some reason, the moment that thought crossed her mind, her
head would start to hurt.
That feeling, it was as if she was being controlled.
Controlled?
Madeleine’s eyelids twitched. She grabbed Mrs. Miller’s arm, a
little agitated, and pressed,
“Mrs. Miller, is someone forcing you to set me up with Edward?”
Mrs. Miller thought through the pain, shaking her head with
difficulty. “No, no one.”
“Then why do you think I should like Edward?”
“Why… why…”
Mrs. Miller muttered, not knowing if she was asking Madeleine
or herself.
She didn’t understand. Setting up Madeleine and Edward?
Right, why would she do that? It’s not like there was anything in
it for her if they got together.
“It hurts so much…”
Chapter 76
Mrs. Miller’s pain intensified, and she broke out in a cold sweat.
It wasn’t just her head; she placed a hand on her lower
abdomen, which seemed to be starting to hurt as well.
Madeleine immediately regretted pushing her and stood up to
go find Roderick and the others.
“Cynthia!”
Just then, Owen walked in, saw the scene, and got the wrong
idea.
He rushed over anxiously, pushed past Madeleine, and steadied
Mrs. Miller.
Madeleine stumbled sideways, losing her balance. Just as she
was about to hit the nearby cabinet, Roderick’s large hand
wrapped around her.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.”
Madeleine shook her head, and the next second, she heard
Owen’s angry shout: “Madeleine!
Haven’t you caused enough trouble for my son and grandson?
Chapter 76
Mrs. Miller likes you so much, how could you have the heart to
hurt her!”
“I didn’t.”
Madeleine quickly protested.
The hand on her waist tightened. Before Madeleine could figure
out how to defend herself, Roderick’s deep voice sounded from
right above her-
“She didn’t hurt Mrs. Miller. What gives you the right to push
her.”
Owen’s face fell instantly.
It was one thing when he used to scold Madeleine and that kid
Roderick would step in to protect her.
But today, she’d gone too far!
“Owen…”
Mrs. Miller spoke up, her voice soft, as she grabbed the corner
of Owen’s shirt.
“Diane, are you alright?”
Chapter 76
Owen didn’t have time to blame the two of them now, worriedly
holding Diane.
“Come on, let’s go to the hospital.”
“I’m fine.”
Mrs. Miller shook her head and took a deep breath, the
paleness in her face slowly fading.
She quickly explained, “It has nothing to do with Maddie, I just
had a moment where I didn’t feel well.”
“Nothing to do with her?”
Owen didn’t believe it, turning his head to look at Madeleine.
Madeleine had a pitiful look on her face.
Sob, good deeds go unnoticed, but bad news travels fast. It seems my past self really left behind a bad reputation.
Beside her, Roderick held Madeleine tightly with an ‘I told you
so‘ look, raising an eyebrow.
“Did you hear that?
It has nothing to do with Madeleine.”
Chapter 76
Owen found it strange, but since Diane had said so, he couldn’t
really question it further.
He supported Diane.
“Are you still feeling unwell anywhere? I’m worried, we should
still go to the hospital.”
“No need, just help me back to my room to rest.”
After speaking, Mrs. Miller looked apologetically at Madeleine
and Roderick.
“It seems I can’t host you anymore.”
“It’s alright, please get some rest.”
