The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 75

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 75

Chapter 75

What could Owen say to that?

He could only compromise.

He couldn’t just not see his precious grandson, could he?

“Hmph.”

Owen snorted softly and said no more, his expression softening as he reached out to Kevin. “Come here, Kevin, let Grandpa hold

you.”

The little guy seemed very close to his grandpa, happily jumping into his arms and nuzzling his head against him.

“Grandpa, I missed you so much!”

“Oh, my sweet boy, Grandpa missed you too. Have you been

eating well lately?”

Kevin nodded eagerly. “Yes, yes, Mommy makes sure I eat

every day.”

Madeleine was confused.

Chapter 75

Her?

Did she?

The kid was perfectly well–behaved during meals; he didn’t need

any supervision from her.

She wasn’t the only one confused. Owen also looked up, his

gaze filled with surprise.

“Kev.”

His tone lowered. “Lying isn’t what good boys do. When has

your mother ever looked after you?”

“It’s true, Grandpa! Mommy even took me and Daddy to the

amusement park yesterday.”

Kevin waved his hands, his eyes sparkling as he described what

happened yesterday. Owen listened with his mouth slightly

open, feeling like he was hearing a science fiction story.

He had the same thought as Roderick did at first.

What kind of trick was this Madeleine trying to pull now!

Chapter 75

“Let the three of them talk here. Maddie, how about you come

inside with Mrs. Miller for some tea and snacks?

Pregnancy just makes you hungry.”

After speaking, she looked down and stroked her belly with her

slender, pale fingers, looking very happy.

Madeleine instinctively glanced at Roderick, feeling that

something was strange.

Roderick had originally told her not to interact with Mrs. Miller,

so she’d assumed they had some kind of grudge and would

fight if they met.

But now, it seemed like they were actually on pretty good

terms?

Roderick showed no reaction, so Madeleine felt she couldn’t

refuse and agreed.

It was also a good chance to get closer and figure out what

exactly had happened between her and this Mrs. Miller.

Once inside the inner room, Madeleine acted as if she’d been

there before, resisting the urge to look around.

Chapter 75

The room’s furnishings were quaint and full of charm, and

Madeleine guessed it was all the work of Mrs. Miller, the

mistress of the house.

She now suspected that Owen’s fondness for Tudor–style

architecture wasn’t about some profound artistic appreciation.

But rather, because he had found true love.

After all, Mrs. Miller was clearly a Southerner.

“Come, try some freshly baked Flaky Flower Pastries and Sweet

Bean Tarts. I remember you used to love them.”

Madeleine frowned slightly.

She had never been a fan of these dense traditional pastries,

not even as a child.

This was another reason she believed she had undergone a

ul transmigration; the ‘her‘ she heard about from them had

too many tastes that were different from her own.

She didn’t respond, simply picking up a Flaky Flower Pastry and

taking a small bite.

It tasted okay, but it was definitely not something Madeleine

Chapter 75

would ever love.

Just as Mrs. Miller poured the tea, she picked up a cup,

planning to take a sip to wash the pastry down.

Just as she brought the cup to her lips, a comment from Mrs.

Miller almost made her spit everything out.

Mrs. Miller said in a gentle tone, “It seems you love everything

about him. You like Edward so much that you’ve even grown to

love his favorite pastries.”

Madeleine wasn’t surprised by what Mrs. Miller said. After all,

everyone knew she used to like Edward.

She was surprised by Mrs. Miller’s tone and expression.

She didn’t seem angry at all.

She even… seemed pleased!

Gulping down the tea, Madeleine put down the cup and stared

at her.

“Actually, I don’t love it that much anymore.“

Chapter 75

“Hmm?”

Mrs. Miller frowned, looking at Madeleine in confusion. “What’s

wrong?

Did you have a fight with Edward?”

Going along with Mrs. Miller’s words, Madeleine decided to put

on an act.

She sighed, putting on a woeful expression. “Yeah, Mrs. Miller,

why doesn’t he like me?”

“Don’t be sad, Maddie. There’s nothing wrong with us women

pursuing true love.”

Mrs. Miller said, staring at Madeleine sincerely. “I will help you,

and I’ll find a way to convince Roderick to divorce you sooner.”

Madeleine: !

In an instant, alarm bells went off in her head.

No wonder Ricki told her to stay away from Mrs. Miller. So this

Chapter 75

was what he meant.

She wasn’t here to join this family, she was here to break it up!

Madeleine’s pupils trembled in shock, a persistent question circling in her mind.

It was understandable that Mary wanted to set her up with

Edward to get some money.

But why was Mrs. Miller doing it?

“Actually.”
