Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 71
Chapter 71
Chapter 71
Madeleine picked it up, planning to ask Roy Velez to hand it to
Roderick.
But as soon as she picked up the phone, Madeleine discovered
it had unlocked!
Her face could actually unlock Roderick’s phone!
?
So does this mean she’s looked at Roderick’s phone before?
Madeleine’s mouth fell slightly open in shock, and she
inadvertently glanced at the phone.
The chiming just now was from Facebook messages sent by
the same person, saved under the name Rebecca Whitman.
Madeleine searched her memory. The name was unfamiliar.
She didn’t look to see what this Rebecca had sent.
It was Roderick’s privacy, and she wouldn’t look.
But in the last moment before the screen went dark, she still

noticed the message from that Rebecca.
[Sweetie, am I not the one you trust the most?]
Clang.
Madeleine’s hand wasn’t steady, and Roderick’s phone
slammed onto the table.
Her eyelid twitched violently twice.
Sweetie?
This Rebecca person called Roderick “sweetie“?
That intimate?
That brazen?
Not even trying to hide it!
Even though their marriage was most likely a strategic
marriage, the kind with no feelings involved.
But they couldn’t really just do their own thing, could they? They
have a child.
Chapter 71
Besides, if that’s the case, what was that kiss last night…
Madeleine felt like a heavy stone was crushing her chest,
making it hard to breathe, and her face looked absolutely awful.
“Mommy, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?”
“No.”
Madeleine shook her head, just in time to see Roderick
approaching after finishing his work call, and her face darkened
again.
“If you don’t like the breakfast, I’ll have Kirsten make something
else. What do you want to eat?”
“I don’t want anything.”
Madeleine mumbled, grabbing the peeled egg from the table
and stuffing it into her mouth.
Just then, Rebecca called. Madeleine got so excited she
swallowed the egg whole, nearly choking to death, and quickly
got up to find water in the kitchen.
Roderick saw something was off with her, but he couldn’t quite
put his finger on it.
Chapter 71
He picked up the phone to answer. On the other end, Rebecca
was faking a northern accent, “Well, my goodness, what took
you so long to answer?”
Roderick: …
Rebecca had been obsessed with a northern comedy lately, and
“my goodness” had become her catchphrase.
“Talk to me in that dead voice again and I’ll kill you.”
“Oh?”
Rebecca chuckled on the other end of the line. “Mr. Livingston,
your tone sounds a bit off. Why do you sound so secretly
pleased? What, did you wake up and realize you’re not wearing
such a big pair of horns after all?”
“Rebecca!”
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop. Such a tough guy, but with a fragile ego.
I won’t step on your pride, okay?”
Rebecca held back her laughter, knowing there was a limit to
joking around.
She was close with Roderick, so she could get away with
Chapter 71
teasing him more than others, but that didn’t mean she could
say just anything.
Like Madeleine, for example, whom he’d protect with his life. As
much as Rebecca couldn’t stand her, she didn’t dare make a
move against her.
What could she do? The man was just too fiercely protective of
his own.
She dropped the smile and said, “Gerry told me you’re
investigating Isabela. Why the sudden interest in Origin Real
Real Estate?”
After she spoke, Rebecca noticed there was no response from
the other side and glanced at her phone, puzzled.
“Roderick?
Are you listen-”
“Rebecca.”
Roderick’s voice was a little low. “I consider you a friend, but
that doesn’t mean you can meddle in my private affairs.”
Roderick trusted Gerry to be discreet; the information shouldn’t

have come from him.
The only explanation was that Rebecca had secretly sent
people to investigate Madeleine.
For a moment, there was only static on the line.
They were both silent for a while. After a long moment, Rebecca’s somewhat nervous voice came through.
“Don’t get me wrong.”
She said, forcing herself, “I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just
that something happened at the branch office, and now
everyone in the company and even outsiders are saying
Madeleine did it. As a senior executive, I have a responsibility to
get involved.”
Roderick didn’t answer. He knew what Rebecca meant.
e held no personal grudge against Madeleine; she was just
concerned from the company’s perspective.
“Speaking of which.”
Rebecca knew Roderick was upset, so she cleared her throat
and changed the subject. “It’s not convenient for Gerry to

investigate this. My uncle has some connections in real estate,
so I had him look into it for you. Origin Real does have
problems.”
“Mm.”
Roderick responded.
Even though he didn’t say anything, Rebecca could tell the
Roderick responded.
Even though he didn’t say anything, Rebecca could tell the
matter was closed, that the guy wasn’t mad at her anymore.
