The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 70

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 70

Madeleine suddenly felt hot all over, her ears burning.

“How strange.”

She mumbled.

Strange that she didn’t hate Roderick that much anymore.

When she was little, the thing she resisted most was Roderick

touching her. Back then, if they accidentally made contact,

Madeleine would have wanted to chop her own hand off in

disgust.

People really do change.

Madeleine pursed her lips, staring at Roderick’s face for a while

longer. He had a high nose bridge and deep–set features. Even

lying in a not–so–elegant position, his face was still very

attractive.

If nothing else, he was at least much more attractive than

Edward.

Edward, Edward…

Chapter 70

Damn it, I’m thinking about him again.

Madeleine raised a hand to tap her head, shaking it in annoyance to keep her thoughts from wandering.

It was late, and Madeleine yawned.

She had been so tired from the day at the amusement park that

she could barely keep her eyes open.

It’s just that Roderick was holding onto her, and she couldn’t get

away.

“Whatever, I’ll just make do for one night.”

With that, Madeleine curled up next to Roderick and fell asleep

a short while later.

The two of them woke up at around the same time.

Roderick opened his eyes, the discomfort of his hangover

making him furrow his brow.

He’d been so agitated last night, he’d forgotten how much hard

liquor he had drunk.

What happened later…

Chapter 70

Madeleine!

Roderick stared in astonishment at the person half–lying on him,

too shocked to breathe for a moment.

“Mmm…”

Madeleine turned her head to the other side because of his

movement, and Roderick’s face darkened at the sight.

There was a large wet patch on his chest. This woman actually drooled in her sleep.

He hadn’t originally planned to wake Madeleine, intending to let her keep sleeping.

Who knew she would wake up right at that moment.

“Hm?”

Madeleine blinked a couple of times and patted her “pillow.”

It was soft and warm.

It took her a good while to come to her senses.

Ah!

Chapter 70

This was Roderick’s chest.

Madeleine quickly pushed herself up, and not paying attention, her leg brushed against a place it shouldn’t have, causing

Roderick’s brow to lock and his face to stiffen.

“Sorry, sorry!”

Madeleine apologized frantically, too shy to look down, and

could only press her hands together.

A vein throbbed on Roderick’s forehead.

After a long moment, he finally spoke: “It’s… fine. Just get off

me.”

Two minutes later, Madeleine, wearing Roderick’s oversized

slippers, fled the study as if escaping.

Her heart pounding, Madeleine wasn’t looking and almost ran

into Kirsten Wilson.

“Oh, Ma’am, please slow down.”

Kirsten steadied Madeleine, who had almost tripped, looking in

surprise at her, then at the slippers on her feet, and then at the

study door.

Chapter 70

“Ma’am, did you sleep in the study last night?”

“Uh, I…”

Before Madeleine could say anything, the study door opened

again, and a barefoot Roderick emerged in a wrinkled shirt, also

looking like he had just woken up.

Kirsten’s eyes widened. She looked at Madeleine, then at

Roderick, and a wild idea popped into her head.

The master and missus spent the night in the study!

Right now, Kirsten really wished she had a megaphone to tell

everyone the good news.

“Sir, ma’am, why did you sleep in the study? There’s only one

sofa in there, right?”

Kirsten couldn’t hold back a smile. Seeing Roderick’s shoes on

Madeleine, she quickly said:

“It’s getting chilly, don’t catch a cold. Sir, you go stand on the

carpet, I’ll get you some slippers.”

After saying that, she turned away, covering her mouth and

giggling.

Chapter 70

Madeleine’s face turned as red as a baboon’s butt, and she

silently slipped into the bedroom.

After dawdling for half an hour to wash up, Madeleine finally

went downstairs, her stomach growling with hunger.

Only her son was at the dining table, eating obediently.

“Hmm?

Where’s your dad?”

“Dad went to take a call.”

Madeleine pointed at the table, “Isn’t this his phone?”

“Mom, didn’t you know Dad has two phones?

One for personal use, and one for work.”

Hearing this, Madeleine raised an eyebrow and clicked her

tongue. “Two phones, huh…”

It’s never a good thing when a man has two phones.

That’s how it always is on TV shows. When a man has two

phones, it usually means he has two families.

Chapter 70

Hiss…

Madeleine narrowed her eyes, looking at the phone on the

table.

She was Roderick’s formally and legitimately wedded wife, so

looking at his phone wasn’t illegal, right?

The thought only flashed through Madeleine’s mind for a

second.

Prying into someone’s privacy requires their consent, and she

had no intention of doing that.

Just as she sat down, the phone on the table chimed several

times.
