Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 213
Madeleine was scrolling through her phone.
“Don’t we need to book in advance? The nice places with good
food and high ratings are hard to get into.”
Rebecca thought for a moment. “I’m tired of all those places.
Let’s go eat something else.”
“Something else?”
Madeleine turned to look at her, confused.
“Any recommendations?”
“Yeah, I’ll take you there.”
As Rebecca drove, she started to think she must be out of her
mind.
Her mind was completely filled with the restaurant where she
had eaten with Adrian last time.
After that, they had been back twice–once just the two of them,
and once for a team dinner with the whole lab group.
Chapter 213
Adrian seemed to know the owner of the restaurant very well.
Every time they met, it was like a family member coming home
for a meal.
The more she thought about it, the more Rebecca felt
something was wrong with her.
Adrian, Adrian… She was supposed to be thinking about the
restaurant, so why was her head full of Adrian?
They hadn’t even known each other that long. Had Adrian cast
some kind of spell on her?
Just as they were about to reach the restaurant, Rebecca
changed her mind again.
“You know what, let’s go somewhere else.”
Her voice clearly lacked confidence.
“Somewhere else?
Why?”
Madeleine turned her head, puzzled. “I just looked up the reviews online. It’s not a big place, but it’s a historic establishment. Everyone says it’s pretty good.”
Chapter 213
“I’m worried you won’t like the food.”
The closer they got, the more agitated Rebecca felt, so she just
made up a random excuse.
“How could I not like it? Don’t worry, Rebecca, ‘I’m not a picky
eater.”
“It’s just an ordinary little restaurant…”
“I’ve been eating the Spicy Numbing Hot Pot from the stall by
the school for years. Do I look like I care about that stuff?”
While Madeleine said this, she was already watching Rebecca’s
expression out of the corner of her eye.
Hmm…
Something’s not right.
Rebecca’s not acting right!
There’s something fishy about that restaurant.
She didn’t ask, just patiently decided to investigate once they
got there.
They arrived before the dinner rush, so the restaurant wasn’t

too crowded.
And because of that, the owner looked over from inside and
recognized Rebecca immediately.
“Hey!
It’s you, aren’t you…”
“Hello, owner.”
Rebecca cut the owner off, pointing to Madeleine and saying, “I brought a friend to eat here today. I want her to try your chef’s
cooking.”
The owner was a simple and honest–looking middle–aged man of about forty–five. Hearing this, he immediately broke into a
smile.
“Great, great, sit anywhere. Don’t worry, you won’t be
disappointed.”
He said as he personally brought over the menus, ready to take
their order.
“I remember you like the Spicy Sautéed Kidney. Want one?”
“Yes, and a Mulberry Leaves in Superior Broth…”
Chapter 213
Rebecca ordered a few dishes, and Madeleine found it strange.
Except for the Spicy Sautéed Kidney, the others seemed to be
all her favorites.
She rested her chin on her hand and looked at Rebecca.
“Rebecca, how did you know what I like to eat?”
“Me?”
Rebecca looked up, a speechless expression on her face.
“How would I know?”
They hadn’t really eaten together that much, and when they did,
it was mostly simple, low–calorie Minimalist Western meals.
Rebecca, looking completely exasperated, took out her phone,
found her chat history with Roderick, and handed it to
Madeleine.
“See for yourself. I can’t even be bothered to talk about it.”
Madeleine looked down. It was a message from two days ago.
Roderick had sent Rebecca a document.
She tapped it open, and her eyes went wide.

A dozen pages long, the entire document was filled with notes
on Madeleine’s preferences.
Stunned, she scrolled through it a bit. It was all her habits, no
doubt about it.
“This… when did he do this?”
Madeleine murmured in a low voice, her voice a little choked up.
“Who knows.”
Rebecca shrugged, crossing her arms.
She was just exasperated, not particularly surprised or shocked.
After all, when it came to Madeleine, nothing Roderick did, no
matter how over–the–top, would surprise Rebecca.
As Madeleine scrolled, her vision started to blur.
Chapter 213
She was truly touched.
“Why are you crying now? Don’t tell Roderick about this. What if
he finds out you cried and blames me?”
Madeleine forced a smile and held back her tears.
“I know, Rebecca.”
The phone in her hand vibrated twice, and Madeleine quickly
handed it to Rebecca.
“Looks like a work message. You should check it.”
After a glance at the message, Rebecca’s brow furrowed
slightly.
