Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 183
After thinking for a moment, she felt guilty. “How about I find a
family–friendly restaurant and have a nice dinner with our son
tonight?”
“Alright.”
Madeleine stretched lazily, whining that she should get up.
She said it a couple of times but had no intention of actually
getting up.
“Still not getting up?
It’s time to eat.”
“Carry me.”
As she spoke, Madeleine reached her hands out toward
Roderick.
Roderick stared at her for a moment, the amusement in his
eyes gradually turning dark and deep.
Madeleine realized what that look meant and her eyes

immediately widened in alarm.
No longer lazy, she bolted upright in bed.
“Never mind, never mind! I’ll get up myself. Wouldn’t want to
trouble you.”
If he got his hands on her, getting out of bed would be delayed
by another hour or two.
In the afternoon, Roderick went to the office and was cornered
by Rebecca.
“What was up with you this morning? Weren’t we supposed to
meet the investors to discuss the new project? I had to face
them all by myself for two hours!”
Roderick walked past her into his office, his expression
unchanged.
“I trust your abilities.”
After all, when it came to money, no one was more professional
than Rebecca.
She rolled her eyes and then sent him the organized files.
“I’ve compiled the investors‘ questions. They’re still very
Chapter 183
interested in investing, but they’re holding back because of the
company’s recent negative press.”
As she spoke, Rebecca raised an eyebrow. “The bidding for the
South City project is coming up soon. Isn’t it time to reel in your
big net?”
“Mmm.”
“Good. Besides, I’ve been annoyed with that Edward for a long
time.”
Just hearing the name brought an uncontrollable look of
disgust to Roderick’s eyes.
Noticing a cut on Rebecca’s hand, he casually asked how she
got it.
“Oh, this?”
Rebecca looked down at it. “I was helping organize test tubes
at the lab yesterday, and I accidentally fell. Cut it on some
glass.”
“How are things going between you and Adrian?”
“What ‘going‘?”
Chapter 183
Rebecca glanced up at him. “I told you not to assume things. I
just want to get to know him better so I can ask why he turned
down my family’s invitation.”
A teasing smile played on Roderick’s lips.
“By the way, I’m taking tomorrow off.”
“Tomorrow?”
Roderick glanced at the computer next to him. His schedule for
tomorrow was displayed on the desktop.
One item was attending a medical research seminar. As an elite
in the finance industry, he was invited to attend as a cross- industry guest.
If he remembered correctly, Adrian was one of the speakers.
Roderick tapped his fingers on the desk.
He had tired Madeleine out last night. It would be a good chance to take her out to see something interesting and relax.
After talking about work for a while longer, Rebecca got ready
to leave.
Roderick suddenly stopped her.
Chapter 183
“Did you go with Madeleine to Hengrong International Plaza yesterday afternoon?”
“Yeah, your wife said she wanted to rent an office, so I went to
help her check it out. It’s not bad.”
Roderick narrowed his eyes, leaning back in his office chair.
His long fingers tapped lightly on the desk, his gaze gradually
turning dangerous.
“Jason, the golden child of Hengrong, do you know him?”
His voice was low, with a hint of coldness.
Rebecca raised an eyebrow, keenly sensing the change in
atmosphere. “Jason?”
She thought for a moment. “I’ve heard of him, but I don’t know
him well. The guy has a bad reputation. He acts all arrogant
because his family’s rich, but he’s always been abroad.”
“He’s back.”
Roderick’s eyes darkened, and the tapping of his fingertips
stopped.
Rebecca studied his expression and suddenly realized, “Wait,
Chapter 183
did he offend Madeleine?”
Roderick didn’t answer, but his eyes said it all.
It was more than just offending her; he even got a slap from his
wife.
Rebecca knew that with Roderick’s fiercely protective nature,
there was no way he would let Jason get away with it easily.
“So, what’s the plan? How are you going to get even for
Madeleine?”
“The Klein Family has expanded very quickly these past few
years. They’ve secured several municipal projects along the
inner–city ring roads. Their debt ratio can’t be low.”
Rebecca nodded. “Got it. Auditing the books. I’m an expert at
this.”
She stood up and snapped her fingers.
“Just wait. I’ll have news for you later.”
“Thanks.”
Rebecca had already turned away, but she couldn’t help turning
back to tease him.
Chapter 183
“This is really something, hearing the word ‘thanks‘ from the
great Mr. Livingston.”
Roderick gave her a cool glance, and Rebecca immediately took
the hint, zipping her lips before turning and leaving the office.
