Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 162
[Charlotte: You have to eat, no matter how busy you are.]
After a long while, Charlotte sent another message.
[Charlotte: Bradley, you should get a girlfriend.]
Instantly, Bradley’s face fell. He shut off his phone and threw it
onto the sofa.
Bradley’s expression changed quickly, and by the time they
were eating, he was acting like nothing had happened, raising
his glass to toast Madeleine’s parents.
Madeleine watched him downing the Vodka and said coolly, “Dr.
Kline, aren’t you afraid of getting drunk again?”
Bradley almost choked on the burn of the Vodka.
About that time he got drunk over Spicy Numbing Hot Pot, even
though the couple never said anything about it afterward,
Bradley could guess that Roderick must have told her
everything.
Otherwise, Madeleine wouldn’t give him that weird look every

time she saw him.
He shot Madeleine a warning look, then went back to cheerfully
chatting with the elder Mosleys.
Bradley had plenty to talk about and knew how to liven up the
mood, so the elders were all quite fond of him.
After a few rounds of drinks, Harold, Clarissa, and Bradley were
all feeling tipsy.
Clarissa held onto Bradley, insisting that she had to introduce
him to a girl so he could get married soon.
Bradley agreed on an impulse, “Sure, Auntie!
You just tell me when the blind date is, and I’ll be there!”
Bradley had definitely had too much to drink; after a few
glasses of Vodka, his tongue was heavy and he couldn’t speak
clearly.
Roderick was worried the guy would start spouting nonsense in front of his future in–laws, so he quickly had someone help take
him to a guest room to rest.
Taking this opportunity, Harold called Madeleine out to the yard

for a private word.
“Maddie, come over and tell Dad, what’s on your mind?”
Madeleine leaned in closer with a curious look.
“Dad, you’re not drunk?”
Harold smiled mysteriously, “Your old man has seen his fair
share of business dinners. I’m not going to get knocked out
that easily.”
That was just to save Bradley some face, so it wouldn’t be so
embarrassing for him to get drunk.
Madeleine was amazed. “The older, the wiser.”
“Tell Dad, what are your plans for starting the company? Are
you…”
“Dad, you must have guessed what I’m thinking.”
Madeleine forced a smile and shrugged.
“What happened over the past few years was my doing. Even
though I have amnesia, I won’t deny the mistakes I made. I just
want to make up for it now.”

She took a deep breath, trying to exhale all the tightness in her
chest.
“Since I was the one who made our family go bankrupt and cost
you your career, I should be the one to take responsibility.“”
Harold didn’t speak, his gaze deep and fixed on Madeleine for a
long time.
For Harold, it wasn’t surprising at all that his daughter would
think this way.
Because this was the true nature of the Madeleine he had
raised.
He felt a wave of melancholy, and before he knew it, his eyes
had turned red.
Harold took a couple of steps closer and patted Madeleine’s
shoulder.
“Sweetheart, your mom and I never blamed you. At most… we
were just a little disappointed at the time.”
He sighed heavily.
“You were like a different person back then. Your mother and I
Chapter 162
couldn’t believe you’d fallen for that Edward guy. And not just
fallen for him—it was like you were possessed, giving him every
advantage.”
Those past events often weighed on Harold. For countless days and nights, he and his wife had secretly wiped away their tears.
“We just thought you were cursed, that it was ghost
possession. But slowly, we realized you seemed to be in pain
too. You were still you, still Madeleine, our daughter. It’s just
that you seemed to have… some unspeakable sorrow.”
As he spoke, Harold couldn’t hold back his tears.
He quickly wiped them away and asked, his voice choked,
“Sweetheart, part of me hopes you can remember the past and
tell me what really happened, but another part of me hopes you
never remember, that you just live a happy life. That would be
better than anything.”
Madeleine had been holding back her tears the whole time.
The moment she saw her father’s red–rimmed eyes, she started
to lose control. When he cried, the tears started rolling down
Madeleine’s cheeks too.
She sniffled.
Chapter 162
“Dad, actually… I’ve remembered parts of what happened
before.”
Harold’s eyes widened in an instant.
“You… you’ve remembered?”
Madeleine nodded. “Lately, the memories have been slowly
coming back to me. It’s my past, a past I can’t erase.”
She wiped away another tear and continued.
