Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 133
Chapter 133
Madeleine couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
In the past, she would have thought Ricki was definitely teasing
her, deliberately trying to annoy her.
Now that she knew he was saying these things sincerely
because he liked her, Madeleine felt flustered and
embarrassed, not knowing what to do for a moment.
No, who likes someone using such a cheap way to show it
“Don’t give me that.”
She pushed against his chest, but he only held her tighter.
“Come on, tell me. What exactly did you say to Nanette?”
Roderick chuckled, his fingers tracing her skin through the thin
fabric of her shirt, making Madeleine shiver.
“You really want to know?”
Madeleine shrank back a little and nodded.
Roderick smiled. “I had Mariah dig up her entire family history

and told her that if she didn’t write it, what’s waiting for her
would be a lot worse than just jail time and paying damages.”
“You threatened her?
That’s illegal…”
“It’s called a reasonable negotiation.“,
Roderick said nonchalantly, twirling a strand of her hair around
his finger. “Besides, so what if it is illegal?”
For Madeleine, he would risk anything.
Roderick chuckled again. “I’m kidding. We’re law–abiding
citizens. For those slaps you gave her, we’ll pay the medical
bills. How much was it again?”
He picked up his phone and glanced at the message from
Mariah.
“Seventy–six fifty–two.”
Madeleine almost choked on her own spit and couldn’t help but
burst out laughing.
Perfect. That was so Ricki.
Chapter 133
Madeleine grinned, then immediately dug her own grave with
her next words:
“Since you helped me so much, shouldn’t I thank you properly?”
At her words, she saw Roderick’s eyes land on her, filled with
surprise and a hint of unreadable desire.
Madeleine, who had been a little chilly with her bare legs and
was wrapped in a blanket on the sofa, now felt the temperature
rising, her whole body growing hot.
Just being enveloped by his gaze, she started to feel
uncomfortable all over, shifting her body uneasily.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Madeleine’s voice was timid, her nervousness obvious.
Roderick mischievously leaned in closer, his eyes looking down
at her, forcing her to tilt her head up slightly.
“What do you think?”
He raised an eyebrow and smiled. “Didn’t you say you wanted to
thank me? I’m waiting.”
Madeleine shrank back, not daring to meet his gaze.
Chapter 133
She felt that Roderick looked a little scary right now, that she’d
be devoured if their eyes met.
“I just haven’t figured out how to thank you yet… How about I
buy you a gift?
I remember you really liked those figurines when you were a kid,
right?”
As Madeleine spoke, she squirmed, trying to get out of
Roderick’s arms.
But that squirming only made things worse. Roderick’s gaze on
her deepened, and several veins popped out on his neck.
“Madeleine, don’t move.”
The hoarse voice came, and Madeleine immediately froze as if
under a spell, not daring to move.
She sat like a statue, her muscles tense, truly not moving at all.
Roderick was amused by her, looking speechless.
“Go ahead and move.”
Madeleine wanted to cry but had no tears.
Chapter 133
Should she move or not? Her whole body was so tense it was
uncomfortable.
Seeing her like this, Roderick felt a little bad. After all, she was
missing her memories of the last few years. What if he scared
her by pushing her forward like this?
Take it slow, step by step.
Roderick was just about to let her go, about to tell Madeleine to
get off him.
The person on him, for some reason, reached out and wrapped
her arms around his neck.
Roderick looked astonished.
What’s gotten into her?
Madeleine was so nervous she was about to explode. She
didn’t dare look Roderick in the eye, so she looked down, shyly
watching his lips.
She wasn’t an idiot; of course she could hear the subtext in
what Roderick was saying to her.
Her heart was beating so fast it felt like it would leap out of her

chest, and her fingertips were trembling slightly. Madeleine held
her breath, finally gathered her courage, leaned up, and gently
pressed her lips to Roderick’s.
His lips were warmer than she had imagined, with a faint scent
of coffee.
Madeleine had made the coffee for him. They were Ethiopian
beans from Bradley. When she was grinding them, she’d
glanced at the description, which mentioned flavors of
magnolia, citrus, pineapple, and mango.
After brewing it, Madeleine had taken a sip herself. It was bitter
and astringent; she couldn’t really taste those flavors.
But now, from Roderick’s mouth, she thought she could taste
them.
That hint of sweet floral and fruity aroma, as if laced with
alcohol, made her feel intoxicated, lost.
