The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 125

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 125

Chapter 125

The principal looked to be around the same age as Madeleine’s

mother, with some gray in her hair. Seeing her so fearful and

apologetic made Madeleine feel uneasy.

“Principal, please sit down and take your time.”

After speaking, Madeleine went and sat down next to Roderick.

The atmosphere in the living room was a bit heavy.

The principal was still sighing.

“I interviewed Nanette myself. Her resume was truly impressive,

and the children really liked her. I never, ever imagined she

could do something like that.”

Then she asked worriedly, “How is Kevin doing now?

Is it serious?”

“We’ve already found a new doctor and are preparing for

treatment. It’s too soon to know the full extent of the situation.”

Roderick said, clasping his hands and leaning forward.

“During Nanette’s time working at the kindergarten, was there

anything unusual at all?”

The principal frowned slightly, thinking carefully for a moment.

“She was a new colleague and wasn’t close with the other

teachers. She mostly kept to herself. If she noticed a child

showing signs of psychological issues, she would talk to them

alone.”

After saying this, she glanced timidly at Madeleine and

Roderick.

“Kevin… she met with him several times.”

Just as she thought.

Madeleine clenched her fists, her breathing growing slightly

heavier.

Even though she had suspected it, actually hearing it made a

sharp pain shoot through her heart.

Her child was still so young…

She couldn’t bear to imagine how her little boy endured such

psychological torment.

Chapter 125

“Are there no surveillance recordings or video files?”

The principal shook her head and sighed, “At a kindergarten like

ours, children rarely have serious psychological problems. It’s

usually just someone upsetting someone else. In those cases,

we’d have Dr. Clark come and chat with the child, so…”

The principal sounded annoyed with herself as she spoke.

Why didn’t she think to install a camera!

This was indeed an oversight by the kindergarten. The principal

had come specifically to apologize and also to discuss how to

handle things moving forward.

After all, if the parents decided to press charges after the investigation, she, the principal, would definitely be finished.

Roderick and Madeleine weren’t saints; they couldn’t just let it

go completely. But seeing the principal so terrified she was

trembling as she spoke, they couldn’t say much.

“Let’s wait until the investigation is complete to discuss how to proceed. As for the rest, Principal, you should know what to do.”

The principal nodded quickly. “Of course. We’ve already

contacted our legal department, fired Dr. Nanette Clark, and

Chapter 125

we’re filing a lawsuit against her. The kindergarten will also

tighten its safety inspections on matters like this from now on.”

Roderick nodded and called Roy to see the principal out.

When he turned back, he found Madeleine staring into space.

He went over and put his arms around her.

“What are you thinking about?”

“I’m thinking about what a terrible mother I am, to just stand by

and watch my child go through so much pain…”

Roderick’s arms tightened abruptly, pulling Madeleine

completely into his embrace.

His chin rested on the top of her head, his voice firm and

leaving no room for doubt: “This isn’t your fault.”

A low rumble of thunder rolled past the floor–to–ceiling windows,

the late autumn downpour arriving without warning.

The raindrops splattered against the glass, just like Madeleine’s

chaotic heartbeat.

“It was in a camera blind spot, a professional doctor didn’t see

through it, and even our child couldn’t explain it clearly. Nanette

left no loose ends. We’re not experts, so it’s normal that we

didn’t figure it out immediately.”

Roderick held her and comforted her softly, but inside, his

stomach was in knots.

He blamed himself just as much as Madeleine did.

“What if we can never find any evidence?”

“That won’t happen. Have you forgotten what Mariah said?

‘Everything you do leaves a trace.”

Madeleine nodded quietly, composed herself, and decided to

go spend time with her child.

The next day, a topic shot up the trending list.

[Wealthy Socialite Beats Up Doctor]

Under the eye–catching headline was a photo of Nanette with a

bruised and swollen face. The injuries in the photo were

obviously makeup, applied to look horrific.

When Roderick found out, he immediately called a meeting.

Besides his corporate team and Mariah, he also called in the

psychologist, Mr. Eleanor.

The conference room on the top floor of the villa.

Mariah pushed up her gold–rimmed glasses. The open folder in

front of her contained all of Nanette’s information.

“The situation isn’t in our favor right now. She went to the

media first, and public opinion is already on her side. ‘Rich Wife

Beats Commoner Doctor‘–that’s a very catchy headline.”

After all, in the public’s eye, stories of the rich bullying the

common folk are nothing new.
