The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 111

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 111

It was like a train on its tracks that had derailed, traveled for a

while, and then returned at some junction, getting back on the

normal track.

It was all so surreal, yet it made perfect sense.

Madeleine felt a tightness in her chest. The feeling of her

destiny being tightly gripped by someone else, unable to

deviate no matter how she struggled, was too suffocating.

“How did you end up like this?”

Madeleine murmured the question, not expecting an answer

from Zoe, but more as if asking herself.

She was guessing, wondering if Zoe’s madness was really

because of the awakening.

“Because I’m useless now.”

Zoe chuckled, repeating the same hysterical line from before.

After she spoke, she turned her head strangely to look at

Madeleine.

Chapter 111

“You’re useless now too. It’s so weird, how come you haven’t

gone crazy?”

“Me?”

Madeleine gave a bitter smile. “I lost my memory.”

“Lost your memory…”

Zoe nodded. “Losing your memory is good, too. Forgetting all

the stupid things you’ve done, that’s pretty good.”

After she finished, she looked up at the ceiling.

“You know, when I found out I was just a supporting character

in Edward’s world, do you know what my first reaction was?”

Madeleine looked at her and shook her head.

“My first reaction was to kill him.”

“Kill him?

You can’t kill him. He’s the main character.”

“Yeah, that’s why I went crazy.”

Zoe chuckled again after she spoke, and Madeleine couldn’t tell

if she was sane or not right now.

Before Madeleine went in, the doctor had said there were only

ten minutes for a private visit.

So Rebecca was waiting at the door, listening ‘for any sounds

while keeping an eye on the time.

She was going to pull her out the second the ten minutes were

“Ten minutes!”

Camryn was even more nervous than her. As soon as his

phone’s timer went off, he quickly looked at Rebecca.

Just as Rebecca was about to raise her hand to open the door,

it opened from the inside.

Madeleine’s face was ashen, her lips colorless. She gave her a

very forced smile.

“Let’s go. I’m a little hungry.”

Before they left, Madeleine had said she wanted to treat

Rebecca to lunch, so she’d made a reservation a day in advance

at a super popular restaurant.

Chapter 111

On the way, Madeleine chattered on and on about how great

she was at picking restaurants, and how she was going to order

based on some food blogger’s recommendations.

Everything seemed normal, but Rebecca felt like something

was off.

Once they were seated in the restaurant and had ordered,

Rebecca cut Madeleine off.

“Give it a rest.”

She frowned. “What exactly did you and Zoe talk about?

It feels like you’re hiding something.”

“Am I?

I don’t think so. Wasn’t I always like this?”

After saying that, Madeleine let out a small sound and picked

up her phone.

“I haven’t paid you yet for coming with me to see Zoe today.

Thanks, Rebecca. Oh, right, you don’t like me calling you that. I

won’t do it anymore.”

As she spoke, she kept her head down, typing in her transfer

password, trying hard to hold back the tears welling up in her

eyes.

Damn it!

Don’t cry!

What’s there to cry about? It’s all just speculation, isn’t it?

After talking with Zoe, a terrifying thought had taken root in

Madeleine’s mind.

If all the supporting characters existed only for the

protagonist’s growth, would she become one of them again?

To become that unreasonable Madeleine again… she couldn’t

bear to think how much it would hurt the people around her.

So, whether it was possible or not, all she wanted now was to

cherish the present and be good to the people around her.

Rebecca wasn’t that perceptive; she just felt Madeleine was

being weird, but she couldn’t put her finger on why.

After thinking for a moment, she took out her phone and texted

Roderick.

Rebecca: Your wife is being weird.

Chapter 111

Then, she raised her phone, secretly took a picture, and sent it

to him.

A moment later, she got a reply.

Roderick: Weirdly beautiful.

Rebecca: …

Madeleine’s mood came and went quickly. Mainly because the

restaurant’s food was genuinely good, and she forgot

everything once she started eating something delicious.

Rebecca, whether she was happy about getting paid or just

wanted to humor Madeleine because she seemed off, kept

chatting with her about boring celebrity Gossip throughout the

meal.

After they finished eating, she even agreed to go shopping with

Madeleine.

“This is great. Thank you, Rebecca.”

Madeleine linked her arm with Rebecca’s and let out a heartfelt

sigh.

“For what?”

Chapter 111

“For being willing to be my friend. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have any friends right now.”

Rebecca frowned. “What about your friends from when you

were eighteen?”
