Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 109
Chapter 109
She nodded, then glanced down at the lunchbox in his hand. It
looked like he was here to deliver food.
“You really are Madeleine!”
The man’s eyes first showed shock, then disbelief, before anger
flared within them.
He suddenly lunged forward and grabbed Madeleine’s wrist
with a shockingly strong grip; she felt like her wrist was about
to be crushed.
“How dare you show your face here!”
“Zoe is like this because of you, and you still have the nerve to
come here!”
Madeleine was terrified, her face turning deathly pale in an
instant. Her throat felt as if a fishbone was stuck in it, and she
couldn’t make a sound.
Could it be that when Rebecca mentioned a connection to Zoe,
this is what she meant?
!
Chapter 109
Zoe went crazy because of her?
No way.
“No, it’s not like that. Just let me go.”
Madeleine said, trying to push the man away with the hand
holding the flowers.
But the movement only agitated him more. He snatched the flowers from Madeleine’s hand, his eyes bloodshot.
“And you brought flowers? You actually brought flowers, pretending to care? You’re doing this on purpose!”
With that, he viciously snatched the bouquet and raised his arm
to throw it at Madeleine.
Seeing she couldn’t dodge, Madeleine could only shut her eyes
and lower her head, bracing herself.
But the pain she expected never came.
A leg swept past from the side.
Then, the man in front of her let out a strange cry and fell

backward.
Madeleine felt like her heart was about to stop. When she
opened her eyes, she saw Rebecca pulling her leg back.
She had just kicked the man and sent him flying!
“Are you okay?”
Rebecca moved quickly. When she turned back to look at
Madeleine, the sunglasses on her head hadn’t even budged.
Madeleine shook her head, feeling it was a bit of a shame as
she looked at the ruined bouquet on the ground.
The man clutched his chest and slowly got to his feet. Just
then, the security guards from the mental hospital heard the
commotion and hurried over to ask what was going on.
One of them went over and held the man down, getting ready to
call the police.
“Wait.”
Madeleine stopped him. “No need, officer. We know each other.
It’s a misunderstanding, no need to call the police.”
“You sure?”
Chapter 109
The guard glanced over a few more times, not fully convinced,
and only left after Madeleine nodded repeatedly.
The man kept gritting his teeth and staring at Madeleine. If his
reason hadn’t held him back, he probably would have charged
at her again.
“Who are you?
What was that just now?”
Rebecca stood with her hands in her pants pockets, partially
blocking Madeleine, a pissed–off look on her face.
The man sneered when he heard this. “Who am I?
I’m Zoe’s boyfriend, Camryn Sampson!”
“Zoe’s boyfriend?”
Madeleine’s mouth fell open in surprise. “Then what you just
said… about me harming Zoe, what’s that all about?”
“You’re asking me about what you did yourself!”
Madeleine pressed her lips together, not knowing how to
explain.
Chapter 109
If she said she had amnesia, he definitely wouldn’t believe her.
Rebecca didn’t have Madeleine’s good temper. Looking
impatient, she said, “The burden of proof is on you. You’ve been
rambling on, so just say it. What does this have to do with her?”
Camryn gritted his teeth. “Zoe was perfectly fine. The problems
started right after she met with you. If it wasn’t you, then who
was it!”
His eyes grew redder.
“Madeleine, liking Edward is your business. Why drag an
innocent person into it!”
“Hey, I don’t like the sound of that. How did she drag an
innocent person into it? Do you have any proof?”
Rebecca was different from Roderick in many ways, but on one
point, they were the same: fiercely protective of one’s own.
It was one thing for her to scold Madeleine a bit, but what was
this about some random guy chasing her down to yell at her?
Besides, the whole thing wasn’t even clear yet. Why should all
the blame be thrown on Madeleine?
Chapter 109
Camryn fell silent. A vein throbbed on his forehead, but he
couldn’t get a single word out.
He had no proof.
Seeing him like this, Rebecca scoffed.
“You dare to cause a scene here with no proof? Believe it or not,
I’ll sue you!”
Camryn clenched his fists, then suddenly relaxed them, his eyes
filled with sorrow.
He staggered back a couple of steps, a dazed look on his face.
“I believe you. Of course, I believe you. For powerful people like
you, killing us is no different from crushing an ant, is it?”
“Zoe’s parents, Zoe, and me… we can’t fight you.”
