Nina lay in bed, her eyes empty.
Many things from the past surfaced in her mind.
She picked up her phone and checked the date. There were still two weeks until she was to marry Mr. Bronner.
A commotion came from the doorway, and Nina slowly got out of bed and walked to the door.
“I’m not going to marry her.”
Sean was on the phone.
“You can’t do this to Nina. She’s been with you for so many years. What do you mean you’re just calling it off!” “You’re hurting her because of me! What’s the point of me being alive then, just to be despised by everyone.”
It was Isabelle’s voice.
Nina couldn’t put a name to what she was feeling. In the end, she heard Sean’s voice give in, gentle and helpless. “Fine, I’ll marry her. You have to take your medicine, okay?”
A wave of bitterness washed over Nina’s heart, and she felt a lump in her throat.
Memories from the past came to her mind.
Nina was not favored in the Collins family; she ate even worse than the servants.
When her mother was alive, she would make even the simplest ingredients into something special.
Over time, Nina developed a severe eating disorder and grew thinner and thinner.
After she got with Sean, he would make all sorts of nourishing food for her every day. Whenever Nina didn’t want to eat, Sean would drop everything to eat with her.
Sean’s tone back then was exactly the same as it was now. “I’m here with you. You have to eat properly, okay?”
Tears streamed down her cheeks, hitting the floor drop by drop, forming a small puddle.
Nina gave a bitter laugh and lay back down on the bed.
She would be leaving in fifteen days.
It’s okay. Once she left, she wouldn’t be sad anymore.
Nina was woken up by a noise. Because she was a light sleeper, Sean never used to allow any noise in the house.

She opened the door, went out, and met the eyes of the woman across from her.
Isabelle glanced at her, a guilty look in her eyes, looking so fragile and pitiful.
Seeing her like that, Sean immediately stepped in front of Isabelle to protect her, his tone impatient. “Why are you looking at Isabelle like that? She’s not well. I brought her home to rest for a while. Didn’t you get some kind of nutri- tionist certification? You can take care of Isabelle.”
Nina heard her own heart stop for a moment, then she looked up and forced a smile. “Okay.”
She was leaving anyway. She could consider this as repaying Sean for all his kindness over the years.
Once she repaid him, it would be time to leave.
After making dinner, Nina felt a bit dizzy and went straight to bed.
She got up in the middle of the night for a drink of water, and when she saw a certain spot, her pupils contracted sharply.
Her mother’s belongings were gone!
She had clearly put them on the table after bringing them back from the Collins family that day! How could they be gone!
Maybe Sean put them somewhere, Nina tried to comfort herself.
She opened every cabinet in the house, searching through all of them.
Nothing!
Nothing!
Still nothing!
The panic in her heart grew more intense, and her hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
Perhaps the noise she made rummaging through the cabinets woke Sean up.
He came out of the room, bleary–eyed, and looked at Nina with a displeased expression.
“What are you doing? Making noise in the middle of the night? Don’t you know Isabelle can’t stand noise?”
Right now, Nina had no mind to be hurt by his words. She looked at Sean desperately, like a little animal lost from its mother, her face full of vulnerability.
“Where’s my mom’s picture?” Nina’s voice was even trembling slightly.
Sean frowned, his eyes darting away.
Nina saw his expression in an instant. She shot up, rushed over, and gripped Sean’s arms tightly.
“Where is my mom’s picture!” Her scream was hoarse and desperate.
