The Girl in the Shadows Novel Chapter 11

Loomwood Galleries Framed Pilgrim Murals by Iris Vaughn 11

Sean was on his way to the hospital, ready to see Isabelle one last time.

But halfway there, the image of that open window flashed through his mind.

Shit!

His clenched fist slammed against the steering wheel with a dull thud.

He decisively turned the car around, but just then, the hospital called: “Mr. Miller, there’s something with Ms. White.”

Hearing this, Sean immediately forgot about Nina and sped all the way to the hospital entrance.

He threw open the car door and rushed into the hospital.

After pushing open the door to her room, he froze on the spot, his eyes filled with disbelief.

“Isabelle…?”

Isabelle, who had been declared dead, was sitting perfectly fine on the hospital bed, her face even glowing with a healthy blush.

Sean couldn’t believe his eyes. He dug his nails into his palm until the sharp pain made him realize it was real.

He wasn’t dreaming.

Isabelle looked at the stunned man before her and smiled gently.

“Are you in a daze?”

She slowly walked over to Sean and hugged him tightly, feeling incredibly secure as she took in his masculine scent.

“You, how are you…” Sean stammered, studying her delicate, beautiful face, the feeling of unreality growing stronger.

Isabelle’s lips curved into a wide smile.

“You know I have a congenital heart defect. I sometimes stop breathing for a short time. The doctors made a mis- take.”

Listening to her explanation, Sean felt something was off, but he pushed the strange feeling down and hugged her small frame back.

“Isabelle, I’m so glad you’re okay.”

Isabelle kept her gentle smile, but where Sean couldn’t see, a triumphant expression appeared on her face.

She had finally driven Nina away.

From the first time she met Nina at the airport with ulterior motives, to the moment Nina completely let her guard down, it had all been her plan.

After she left back then, she found out Sean had started a new relationship.

At the time, Isabelle didn’t think much of it, believing that if she just beckoned, Sean would drop Nina and come back to her.

But Isabelle later discovered that Sean had genuinely fallen for Nina, which filled her with panic.

So she gained Nina’s trust, only to frame her again and again.

But that night, Sean actually chased after her. Isabelle had been grinding her teeth in hatred, determined to force Nina

out.

Thinking of this, Isabelle looked up at Sean, her eyes pitiful and pleading.

“Where’s Nina? Why didn’t she come with you? Did you do something mean to her?”

Isabelle knew Sean. He was an extremely obsessive person. After what happened, he would never let Nina off the hook.

Sure enough, an unnatural expression crossed Sean’s face, and he looked away.

“Nina has hurt you so many times, and you’re still defending her.”

Hearing Sean say that, Isabelle could barely contain her inner joy.

But she still playfully punched his chest in complaint, “She’s still your girlfriend, after all. Maybe she just can’t stand me, but she’s never been bad to you.”

Sean’s expression was complicated. His lips were pressed into a thin line, and the sunlight hitting the side of his face highlighted his displeasure.

“Let’s not talk about this.”

Isabelle watched his expression worsen and quickly grabbed his hand.

She couldn’t let Sean keep thinking about that woman right now.
