When Time Tried to Heal Me But I Refused to Listen by Kael Niro Senn 368
Chapter 368 Learn to Be Kind
Adriana had to grow on her own eventually.
She couldn’t depend on Curtis for everything.
Curtis nodded. “No matter what happens, I’m still here.”
Adriana’s eyes reddened. She smiled and nodded back.

She knew that no matter how things ended, Curtis would always be behind her. That was where her confidence came from.
“Okay.”
After leaving the cemetery, Adriana returned alone to the Barton Estate.
She was sure Danielle and Chandler had people planted there. At the very least, she hadn’t figured out who they were yet.
And now wasn’t the right time to expose them.
She called Kenneth. For now, her focus had to be the national design competition. This time, she needed to completely defeat Danielle and prove her worth to everyone inside the Barton Group.
That was only the first step.
And she had to win it.
Danielle went to look for Justin herself, but he refused to see her.
Even so, she waited outside his villa, unwilling to accept the embarrassment, yet forced to lower herself and wait.
“Danielle, you have to take first place in this design competition,” Chandler urged over the phone. “I’ve already contacted Zeke, a senior executive in the Architecture Department. He hasn’t picked a side between you and Adriana yet. As long as you beat Adriana and win first place, Zeke will support us.”
Zeke Fisher was a powerful figure in the Barton Group. He had connections everywhere and was friends with almost every key executive. He was the center of the company’s internal network. Winning him over meant securing the support of at least half the senior staff.
So Danielle couldn’t afford to lose.
Inside the villa, Justin got a call from Adriana inviting him to dinner at the Barton Estate tonight. After hanging up, he walked out of the living room and immediately spotted Danielle waiting outside.

Justin sneered. Ever since they were kids, Danielle had been the arrogant, sharp–tongued rich girl who looked at him like a stray dog the Bartons kept around. Now, she had to swallow her pride and bey, that same dog,
“Justin!” Seeing him head for his car, Danielle called out urgently,
Justin ignored her and got in.
As the car started moving, Danielle suddenly stepped in front of it.
Inside, Justin frowned. He thought she had completely lost her mind to block his car like that.
“Justin! We need to talk!” Danielle shouted. She knew that if she wanted to turn things around and take back control of the Barton Group, Justin was the only way,
Only by winning him over and marrying him could she gain the support of those senior executives and stubborn old men.
In truth, she and Adriana were facing the same problem. Those old–timers only cared about profit and value, not feelings. Even though Adriana was Nicole, Jeremy was gone. To stabilize the Barton Group, she still needed Justin.
Over the years, Justin had stayed close to Jeremy and taken control of every key relationship and lifeline in the company.
What Danielle and Adriana were really fighting over now was a man.
“Ms. Danielle, I don’t think we have much to talk about,” Justin said coldly as he rolled down the window. “After all, I’m just the mutt your family raised.”
Danielle clenched her fists, forcing herself to swallow her pride. “What would it take for you to forgive what I said before? I was just angry. You always looked so superior, like you didn’t care about me. I just-
“Ms. Danielle, I never took your words to heart,” Justin cut in calmly. “They weren’t worth it. He glanced at her, making it clear that he had no feelings for her at all. She meant nothing to him.
“Justin…” Danielle felt a sharp ache in her chest. In truth, she had liked him for a long time. But she never knew how to like someone properly, let alone love. As the daughter of an illegitimate son, she was never truly welcome. Even after returning to the Bartons, she and her father survived by keeping their heads down. All she wanted was to feel like she mattered, so she hid her deep insecurity behind arrogance.
Justin, the Bartons‘ adopted child, seemed like someone beneath her. So he became the target of her bullying and emotional release.
“Justin, we grew up together…” Danielle said softly. “You’ve only just met Adriana. You don’t even know her that well. I don’t believe you’d rather marry her…”
Even if he didn’t like her, he couldn’t possibly like Adriana either.
“Sometimes, one look is enough to know if someone is right for you,” Justin said calmly, rolling the rosary beads in his hand. “Ms. Danielle, a woman who deserves love must first learn how to be kind.”

With that, he told the driver to leave.
Danielle stood frozen. When she finally reacted, her nails were digging deep into her palm.
Justin thought she was cruel and unworthy of love.
Am I cruel?
But she was just the daughter of an illegitimate son, never favored by Jeremy. If she hadn’t been calculating and ruthless, she wouldn’t have survived in elite society until now.
