“Justin is talented, but he’s too loyal to the Bartons. A dog that’s too loyal will bite,” Mister said seriously, warning Savannah.
“Mister, I can get Justin to choose us,” Savannah said quickly. “He’s actually very sensitive. He follows Christianity to keep his emotions in check. If we play up the darkness he hides, he’ll eventually work for
us.”
She squinted. Right now, her main goal was to drive a wedge between Adriana and Justin.
“I’ll leave this to you. If Justin joins us sincerely, he won’t be shortchanged.”
Savannah felt a thrill. “Don’t worry. I’ve got a plan…”
After hanging up, Savannah walked out of the Barton Estate, smiling confidently.
Danielle and Chandler were no longer favored by Mister. Now, she was the only one he trusted.
“Savannah, you need to stop Justin from marrying Adriana. Once he does, we’ll never be able to touch her!” Danielle said through clenched teeth as she grabbed Savannah’s arm.
“You’re worried that marrying Adriana will push the Barton inheritance even further out of reach, right?” Savannah sneered, brushing Danielle’s hand away.
Back when Savannah needed Danielle to contact Mister, Danielle had looked down on her, acting superior because Savannah was just a butler’s daughter.
Now, Danielle was like a stray dog. What right did she have to act proud?
Danielle gritted her teeth, suppressing her anger. “Savannah, you’d better remember that we’re on the same boat. If we keep fighting, you’ll anger Mister eventually.”
Savannah laughed coldly. “Right now, I’m the one he trusts most. Are you jealous?”
With that, she left smugly.
Danielle kicked the wall hard, barely holding back her rage.
Up on the villa’s third floor, Adriana stood by the window, dressed in black with a white mourning flower pinned to her chest. She watched every move Danielle and Savannah made.
The two who had been tearing at each other were now forming a temporary alliance.
Adriana knew they’d never let Justin marry her.
Everyone believed the Barton Group could only survive with Justin.
Everyone assumed she was just a pretty face with no substance.

She was determined to show them what it meant to look harmless but strike hard.
While everyone’s attention was fixed on Justin, she could quietly seize control of the Barton Group’s internal core.
She picked up her phone and called Kenneth. “I want detailed information on every department head and mid–level manager at the Barton Group, as well as key staff in each department–their backgrounds, connections, and pre–employment investigations. The more detailed, the better.” Inside the Barton Group, very few were trustworthy. She only trusted Kenneth.
Curtis had assigned Kenneth to her, making him her secret advantage inside the company.
“Mrs. Lincoln, everything you asked for has already been looked into by Mr. Lincoln. He’s even planted people in key roles. You can go all in,” Kenneth said softly.
Adriana took a deep breath and smiled.
At that moment, the tension in her chest finally eased.
No matter how tough things got, no matter what challenges came her way, she knew Curtis had her back. She had someone to rely on, someone pushing her forward.
He was always a step ahead, thinking everything through, clearing the way so she could move without fear.
“Nicole.” A knock sounded at the door. It was Philip.
Philip was someone Jeremy trusted deeply, and Adriana trusted him, too. She opened the door politely. “Hello, Philip.”
“Nicole, since you just got back to the Bartons, there’s something I have to tell you. Your grandpa might not have had time. Your biggest concern isn’t Danielle or Savannah right now–it’s Justin.” Philip glanced around, earnest and firm. “He’s capable and loyal, but people can change. You need to marry him before anything goes sideways.”
Philip meant well. He worried that if Justin suddenly refused to marry Adriana, her position in the Barton Group would be extremely unstable. After all, many senior and mid–level executives felt safe only because Justin was still there.
If Justin left or refused to marry her, those people would start getting restless. They trusted Jeremy and Justin, but not Adriana.
First, because she was a woman. Even as the heir, she’d grown up outside and hadn’t been trained internally since childhood.
Second, because they doubted her abilities.
Years ago, Adriana had been surrounded by rumors because of Matthew and Curtis. On top of that, Savannah and Danielle spread gossip, painting her as someone who relied on men to climb the ranks, with no real skills of her own.
