“Also, after Mr. Barton passed, Chandler and Danielle didn’t get a single penny or share. They won’t let it slide–they’ll be causing trouble in the next few days. Make sure you handle it before they spin the story in public.” With that reminder, Philip went back to work.
Adriana understood what he meant. If Chandler and Danielle were blocked from paying respects, they’d play the victim in front of the press, saying she was keeping them from mourning Jeremy.
“Ms. Barton, Chandler and Danielle are here again.” Arthur looked troubled as he told Adriana, “They’re making a scene at the gate. We can’t just force them away. Even if the police come, they’ll say it’s a family
matter.”
“Thanks. Take care of the guests. I’ll handle it,” Adriana said, heading toward the entrance with the bodyguards.
Since returning and taking over everything, she hadn’t confronted Danielle directly.
Not because she couldn’t, but because the timing wasn’t right.
But Danielle and Chandler insisted on provoking her.
“Be careful, Ms. Barton.” The bodyguards exchanged glances as they stayed close to Adriana, afraid Danielle and Chandler might try something.”
Adriana nodded and kept her distance from Danielle when she reached the gate.
“Ms. Xander, is it true you’re the real Nicole, the actual Barton heir? Some online rumors say you tricked Mr. Barton. Is that true?”
“Ms. Xander, people are saying you conned Mr. Matthew first, then latched onto Mr. Curtis, and now you scammed Mr. Barton. Are those claims true?”
Reporters swarmed her, shouting accusations.
Adriana sneered and looked straight at Danielle. “If I didn’t have absolute proof that I’m the Barton heir, do you think I’d be standing here talking to you?”
The reporters exchanged glances and pressed further. “Even if you’re the Barton heir, you’ve inherited everything. Why won’t you let Ms. Danielle and Mr. Chandler pay their respects? Isn’t that too harsh?”
“Adriana, we haven’t done anything wrong,” Danielle said, putting on a pitiful act. “Grandpa favored you and gave you everything. We accepted it. But why won’t you let us show our respect? We just want to honor
him one last time.”
Adriana looked at Danielle, then turned to the reporter’s with reddened eyes. “I want to let them in, too. But before Grandpa passed, he left clear instructions. Anyone may pay their respects—except Chandler and Danielle. They’re not allowed in.”
Danielle knew how to play the victim, and so did Adriana.

She wiped at her tears and spoke in a choked voice as she looked at Danielle and Chandler. “I tried to persuade Grandpa while he was alive. I had no idea what you did to make him so heartbroken and angry at you…”
Both Danielle’s and Chandler’s faces darkened as they glared at Adriana. “Don’t talk nonsense!”
Adriana cried harder. “I’m not making this up. All the senior Barton executives heard it. Grandpa said he would never forgive you. He called it a deadly sin for a family to turn on each other–something that would bring punishment. He was extremely angry at that time.”
Chandler’s face went even darker. He stepped back as the reporters stared at him and Danielle in shock.
The fact that Jeremy had been so ruthless toward his son caused endless speculation. Adriana’s hints, though subtle, pointed straight at Chandler as the one behind her parents‘ deaths.
“I also hope Grandpa was mistaken,” Adriana said, still crying but showing poise for the cameras. “I hope that when the truth comes out, you’ll both be able to pay respects together.”
It wasn’t about refusing them–it was Jeremy’s last wish.
“Stop talking nonsense, Adriana! My dad-” Danielle snapped, ready to lash out.
“Your dad’s origins were never honorable,” Adriana cut her off, tossing the question back at Danielle. “He was born because the housekeeper used dirty tricks back then. Grandpa brought you home and raised you. And your dad made it clear he’d never go after the Bartons‘ assets, didn’t he?”
Sure enough, every mic swung back to Danielle and Chandler.
Chandler’s background was indeed a disgrace. If he had simply been an illegitimate child born of an affair, he wouldn’t have been so heavily criticized.
His face darkened. He glared at Adriana, then stormed off.
Danielle glared at Adriana as well. “Adriana, you won’t always be lucky. If Justin refuses to marry you, I’d like to see how you survive in the Barton Group!”
With that, she left in fury.
Reporters chased after them as Danielle and Chandler scrambled away.
Adriana watched them retreat in a mess, her fingers curling tightly.
