Chandler and Danielle were brimming with confidence. As long as Nicole didn’t show up today, they were sure the odds were in their favor.

Justin said nothing. He just kept his head down, glancing at his watch.

“Looks like Nicole isn’t coming,” Danielle said smugly, checking the time as well.

“Who says she isn’t?” The elevator doors slid open. Adriana stepped out, wearing a sleek, custom–tailored suit that made her impossible to ignore. Behind her were Kenneth, Curtis‘ former assistant, and Gary with a team of tall, black–suited bodyguards.

Seeing Adriana walking at the front, Danielle froze. For a moment, she barely recognized her.

Was that still the same Adriana who used to keep her head down, looking like she’d been beaten down her whole life?

Snapping back, Danielle frowned. “What are you doing here?”

Adriana curved her lips slightly and looked straight at Danielle. “Allow me to reintroduce myself. I’m Barton Group’s only heir–Nicole Barton.”

The entire scene fell silent.

Reporters turned all their cameras on her.

Danielle and Chandler were stunned.

Danielle finally pointed at Adriana, taking a long moment before yelling, “Have you lost your mind?!”

Adriana is Nicole? This has to be a joke!

Chandler also thought Adriana had to be insane.

She’s Nicole? No way!

If Adriana were Nicole, they should have realized it long ago.

But they hadn’t. It only proved one thing–the most obvious place was often the easiest to overlook.

Adriana had been safest right under everyone’s noses.

No one would ever think to link her with Nicole.

But now that they thought about it carefully, panic started to creep in. Adriana was indeed an orphan, and her age matched Nicole’s perfectly.

Everything fit too well.

The person who should have been most suspicious was the one they had completely ignored.

Danielle shot Chandler a tense look. Even if they were starting to believe Adriana might be Nicole, they absolutely couldn’t admit it.

They had to twist the truth.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t just be losing the inheritance. It would be much worse.

They had been at odds with Adriana for years. If she inherited Barton Group, they’d be done.

Not just Chandler–even their backer wouldn’t let Adriana take control.

“Adriana, this is beyond ridiculous.” Danielle sneered, bracing herself. “Do you think you can impersonate the heir just because you’re an orphan? Do you think we or the media are fools?”

beside “She’s indeed Barton Group’s heir–Ms. Nicole,” Justin said calmly as he stepped up Adriana. “We conducted a paternity test long ago. Mr. Barton confirmed it himself while conscious and left a will.”

Danielle’s composure cracked. She turned to Justin, her voice lowered in urgency. “What do you gain by letting her inherit? She’ll never hand the company over to you.”

“Who says I won’t?” Adriana smiled. “I don’t want to run the company. Once I inherit Barton Group, control stays with Justin.” She made their alliance clear.

That was her bargaining chip–the one Danielle and Chandler could never offer. They would interfere with power and management, but Adriana wouldn’t. All she wanted was a strong foothold in architectural design.

Justin looked at Adriana meaningfully and smiled. “Mr. Barton’s will says I should fully support Ms. Nicole. It’s my duty.”

In front of the press, he publicly backed her.

In truth, Adriana didn’t fully trust anyone yet. Saying that publicly was her way of tying Justin firmly to her side.

Justin could only ever be an ally—never an enemy.

She wouldn’t let Danielle sway him.

Danielle and Chandler’s faces went dark.

Now, their only option was to make a scene and stall.

“Buy us some time. I’ll talk to Mister,” Chandler whispered.

Danielle nodded, then faced Adriana and Justin. “You did a test, and that proves it? You could grab anyone off the street and claim they’re the Barton heir! Do you think we’d just believe it?”

She sneered at Justin. “I demand a new, public test, with the results out for everyone!”

“You’re demanding it?” Adriana laughed, thinking Danielle looked pathetic. “Who do you think you are? Since when do the Bartons need to listen to you?”

“You–Adriana, I’m also a Barton! I’m Grandpa’s granddaughter. I have the right to know!” Danielle snapped.

“I’ve seen shameless people, but never someone like you. Don’t you feel embarrassed saying this in front of the press? Just because you share the Barton name doesn’t give you any power. Grandpa took the Barton surname when he married into the family because he wanted to show his commitment. Every Barton Group asset comes from my grandmother. What do you two have to do with her? Not a damn thing.”

Adriana delivered those words to Danielle like a slap, right in front of the media.
