Sienna glanced at Clayton, who had suddenly become mute. Without waiting for his answer, she turned and walked off.
She said, “I have better things to do than attending someone’s thank–you party after watching a questionable play.”
Clayton reached out and grabbed her wrist. He said to the others, “You guys go ahead. I’m tired, so I’m heading home.”
Melody tried to stop him. “Clay…”
Clayton was already walking out of the theater with Sienna.
As he left, he said to Miles, “Make sure you drive her home later.”

Inside the car, it was absolutely silent.
Rowan gripped the steering wheel firmly and didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly. From the rearview mirror, he saw Clayton and Sienna sitting on opposite sides. The empty space between them was wide enough to fit several more people.
Sienna was unusually quiet, her head hung low.
Her mind was in turmoil. If it were any other time, she would’ve at least taken a few sarcastic jabs at Clayton.
She would have said something along the lines of, “Aren’t you going to look for other women tonight? Isn’t that your favorite thing to do?”
But now, all she could think about was Hayden’s remark that she could be pregnant. The more she thought about it, the more panicked she felt. Her period had been irregular, and it still hadn’t come these past few days.
She decided she would buy a pregnancy test tomorrow to check.
Clayton shot her a glance and saw her sulking in the corner, putting deliberate distance between them.
His tone was icy as he jeered, “Why aren’t you sleeping now? You were busy dozing off earlier. That ticket was completely wasted on you.”
Sienna didn’t even spare him a glance as she shot back, “If it were any good, would I have fallen asleep?”
“How come no one else slept, then? You were the only one.”
“Maybe because they didn’t want to sleep. It’s not like I’m inconveniencing anyone by sleeping. If you find me so annoying, why drag me along in the first place? How fussy can you be? You always have something to pick on.”
After that, Sienna shut her mouth completely and turned to glare out the window in silent defiance. Clayton always compared her to others and made it sound as if she was good for nothing.
Rowan’s grip on the steering wheel tightened even more. Why did it feel like she was deliberately giving Clayton the silent treatment?
Having learned his lesson, he decided to stay firmly mute this time.
The car had barely come to a stop when Sienna pushed the door open and hopped out. She hurried into the manor without looking back. She had always been the one watching Clayton’s back in the past. Now, she decided she would always run faster ahead of him.
Edna greeted her at the door. Sienna greeted her perfunctorily and ran upstairs without pausing. She went straight into the guest bedroom and slammed the door shut with a bang.
Clayton followed her moments later with a long face. Without a word, he sat down on the living room couch. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

He didn’t smoke much. In fact, he only did it when he was in an exceptionally bad mood or at business functions. But right now, even nicotine couldn’t suppress the irritation churning inside him.
In the guest bedroom, Sienna took a shower and called Michelle to vent.
She complained, “He dragged me to see his first love’s play for no reason at all. I was already being merciful by not slapping him on the spot. All I did was accidentally fall asleep, and he lectured me for it. Who could stand that?”
Michelle felt indignant on her behalf. “If he wanted to watch it himself, fine. Why did he have to drag you along? What was he expecting? That you get along with Melody and support her? That’s beyond ridiculous.”
Sienna sneered. “He can dream on. I don’t even need to crack his head open to know that it’s full of crap.”
Michelle suddenly changed the topic. “Oh yeah. My drama will start filming tomorrow. The second female lead got replaced at the last minute. Guess who it is?”
Sienna thought for a moment. “Is it Rosa Sutton? Has she decided to act?”
Michelle said bitterly, “It’s Melody! She’s debuting in the entertainment industry. I heard Clayton helped her secure the role.
“The investors put in hundreds of millions for this drama. The second female lead is a role that’s sought after too. I guess they couldn’t change the female lead because she would have to carry the show.”
Sienna froze and suddenly understood why Melody had said she wouldn’t be focusing on stage plays in the future.
She mocked, “Tightwad is willing to spend big money on Melody. First, he showed up to support her play. Now, he’s even securing roles for her.
“But when it comes to his own wife’s allowance, he’s so stingy with the amount he transfers each time. I lose one necklace he gave me, and he has to put it on the books. He’s such a miser.”
Michelle paused and asked hesitantly, “Does he know you sold the necklace to look for Xavier?”
Sienna looked down and replied, “Probably not. He didn’t mention it. Otherwise, he’d definitely make a big deal out of it.”
Michelle sighed. “Even if you find out what happened to Xavier, so many years have passed. He might’ve forgotten you already.”
Sienna was silent for a moment before saying softly, “If he’s forgotten, then so be it. What matters is he’s still alive.”
With that, she hung up.
The low hum of a hair dryer came from the master bedroom.
Sienna paused. Clayton kept his hair short, but he always showered late and never bothered to dry it before sleeping. In the past, she’d been worried he’d get headaches. So, she would often chase after him with a hair dryer and patiently dried his hair
for him.
Sometimes, he tried to do it himself. If she heard the whirring of the hair dryer, she’d still drop whatever she was doing and go help.
But now, she wouldn’t go over to take a look even if the hair dryer caught fire.
She decisively pulled the blanket over her head and turned off the lights, drifting off to sleep.
