Chapter 43
At 8:20 am, Clayton sat at the dining table. The coffee in front of him had long gone cold. His toast and fried eggs remained untouched.
He tapped the tabletop impatiently. “Ask Sienna to come down for breakfast.”
“Mrs. Hale went out early this morning,” Edna replied from the side.
Clayton frowned and asked, “Where did she go?”
“She didn’t say,” Edna replied. She hesitated before adding, “But Mrs. Hale was dressed quite formally today.”
Clayton’s eyes narrowed.
Formally dressed? Could she have gone on a blind date?
He picked up his phone and called Sienna. It rang for a long time, but she didn’t answer.
After a moment, he called again. Still, she didn’t pick up.
Clayton scoffed, and his fingers tightened around his phone. He could barely resist the urge to fling it across the room.
Sienna was becoming increasingly bold and outrageous. Yesterday alone, she had annoyed him five times. On top of that, she had slapped him once.
Now, first thing in the morning, she’d vanished without a trace.
At the same time, in a cafe downtown, Sienna absentmindedly stirred her coffee. She’d interviewed with three companies that morning, and none of them felt right.
“Either the pay’s too low, or the position doesn’t match my specialty…” she muttered with a sigh while flipping through her
notebook.
There was still no word on the second interview at Jierre Studios. That was the one she wanted most, as it was one of the top design firms in the industry. It offered excellent compensation and strong growth prospects.
Besides, Neriah had left a great impression on her. She was professional and astute but not overbearing. If Sienna could join her team, she would learn a lot.
She checked her call log to see if she’d missed any calls. Lo and behold, there were four missed calls, and all of them were from “Tightwad“.
Why was he calling her so many times so early in the morning? Was he trying to get even for the matchmaking -site stunt yesterday?
“How childish,” Sienna huffed, rolling her eyes.
Just as she was debating whether to block him again, her phone vibrated once more.
Startled, she stared at her phone screen and saw an unfamiliar number. Even so, Sienna felt like she’d seen the number before.
After hesitating for a moment, she answered the call. “Hello?”
A gentle female voice came through. “Hello, Ms. Winger. This is Melanie Hall from the HR department of Jierre Studios. We’re happy to inform you that you’ve passed the first round of interviews. Your second interview is scheduled for tomorrow at 2:00 pm. Would you be available at that time?”
Sienna’s eyes lit up with delight. She forced herself to stay calm and keep her voice steady. “Yes, I’m available. I’ll be there on time.”

After hanging up, she visibly relaxed, and her frown eased. She lifted her coffee cup and took a small sip in quiet celebration.
Finally, she received a piece of good news. Even Clayton’s missed calls suddenly looked much less annoying.
“Alright. I’m in a good mood today. I won’t block you,” Sienna said under her breath.
Just then, a male college student walked up to her table, holding a few questionnaires.
He said shyly, “Hello, sorry to bother you. I’m a marketing major from Yedner College. I’m currently doing a market survey on coffee consumption habits. Would you mind helping me fill out a questionnaire? It’s for a group assignment. If you can’t, that’s totally fine too.”
Sienna looked up.
The young man was wearing a simple white shirt and jeans. He had handsome features and bright eyes. Sunlight streamed through the glass, bathing him in a youthful glow.
For a moment, she saw her younger self. Back in college, she’d done this kind of group assignment all the time. She had to run around and beg people to help her out. More often than not, she ended up facing rejection. “Sure,” she said with a small smile, taking the questionnaire and pen from him.
