Chapter 40

“I think I’ll help someone set up a profile,” Sienna said with a sly smile.

She lowered her head, scanned the code, and started filling out the personal information. “Since I’m getting cuckolded anyway, I might as well pick the one who’ll be doing it to me.”

Her fingers flew across the screen as she typed rapidly.

For partner preferences, she wrote, “Able to sing and dance. Knows how to go home when it rains.”

Next, she typed a ridiculous self-introduction. “I have a cold personality, and I’m good at giving others the silent treatment.

My hobby is working overtime, and I’m an expert nitpicker. Best suited for ladies with masochistic tendencies.”

Michelle leaned over to take a look and nearly spit out her coffee. “Your standards are way too low. Basically anyone can qualify. Clayton’s about to get bombarded by some really ‘high-quality’ women.”

Sienna didn’t care in the slightest. She tapped “Submit” with a satisfied look on her face.

After finishing that incredibly flavorful meal, Clayton felt discomfort in his throat and a rise in body temperature. He downed three full glasses of ice water before barely managing to keep it at bay.

Just then, his phone rang.

It was his private number known by very few people. He assumed Sienna had finally found her conscience and was calling to apologize.

He picked up and said coldly, “Have you finally come to your senses, Sienna?”

A sweet female voice came through the line. “Hello! Is this the charming and debonair Mr. Hale with legs a full five-feet-ten- inches long?”

Clayton frowned hard and asked, “Who are you?”

The woman’s voice was bright and enthusiastic. “Oh! I’m the beautiful Mandy Utley with legs five-feet-three-inches meters long. I’m 24 this year. I saw your matchmaking profile online, and I fit your requirements perfectly!

“I can sing and dance. I know how to run home when it rains, and my tolerance for masochism is pretty good. Want to pick a time to get to know each other?”

Clayton fell silent for two seconds before letting out a scornful snort. “You can sing and dance? What are you, a circus monkey?”

“Huh?” Mandy froze.

Clayton went on, “You know how to run home when it rains? Dogs can do that too. I suggest you look for a partner at a pet store. As for tolerance for masochism…”

His tone turned icy as he spat, “I suggest you go to the hospital and get your head checked in the psychiatry department.”

He hung up immediately and tossed the phone onto the desk.

It only stayed quiet for two seconds before it started ringing incessantly.

The first text said, “Hello, Mr. Hale. I’m Ruby. I saw you wrote that you like to give others the silent treatment. What a coincidence, so do I. My nickname is Ice Queen. We can torture each other emotionally and stage a beautiful, tragic romance to see who’s more icy.”

The second one read, “Hello, Mr. Hale. I’m Wendy. I’ve trained in ballet for ten years and also do line dancing. When it rains,

I don’t just run home. I can spin while running home! Would you consider me?”

The third text said, “Hello, Mr. Hale. I’m Ivy. Since you’re looking for someone who can sing, I’m glad to say that I studied operatic singing for three years. My teacher says my singing voice is like a kettle boiling, but I’m amazing at arguing. If you like nitpicking, we can battle it out.”

The veins at Clayton’s temple throbbed violently as he read the messages. He shoved the phone at Rowan, who had just come in to deliver some work documents.

“What’s going on? Was my number leaked?” Clayton said in annoyance.

Rowan fumbled and caught the phone. The moment he glanced down, he instantly understood what was going on. “Uh… This looks like someone used your number to make a post on a matchmaking website.”
