Chapter 37

Upon hearing that, Sienna was so angry that she turned her face toward the window. All Clayton could see after that was the smooth, rounded back of her head.

The car fell into silence once more.

Rowan’s hands on the steering wheel trembled slightly.

He cursed himself for bringing up that topic for no reason. For the rest of the way, he drove on tenterhooks until they finally reached their destination.

The moment the car stopped, Sienna alighted immediately. Her footsteps halted in the courtyard.

The rose bushes she had uprooted completely were somehow back in full bloom, their petals glistening with night dew. It was as if nothing had ever happened to them in the first place.

“Edna replanted them,” Clayton said as he dragged her suitcase over and glanced at the flowers. “I wonder what kind of person destroys their garden when they run away from home.”

Sienna snorted and strode straight into the house. She wasn’t about to get sentimental and assume he had planted them

himself.

The moment she stepped inside, Clayton ordered from behind her, “I’m hungry. Go make me something to eat.”

Sienna frowned. He always acted like a lord at home, bossing her around to do this and that as he pleased. To the public, though, he was the embodiment of the perfect gentleman. When Melody got drunk, he took it upon himself to make her some hangover remedy.

Turning around to look at him, Sienna said with a cold snort, “I only said I’d move back in. I never agreed to be your housekeeper. Besides, you said it yourself that a housekeeper can do all that. We have Edna. If you need anything, call her.”

Clayton frowned in displeasure. “Edna is old, and she’s already asleep. Do you think it’s a good idea to bother her at this hour?

“I

Sienna was just about to snap back and question when he had ever been that considerate.

Right at that moment, Edna poked her head out of her room with her eyes lighting up at the sight of them. “You’re back, Mrs. Hale!”

Sienna said coolly, “Someone’s starving and won’t stop yapping. Go make him something to shut him up.”

With that, she went upstairs without another word.

Edna agreed cheerfully, “Alright! There are still some food ingredients in the kitchen. Please wait a bit, Mr. Hale. I’ll have it ready soon.”

“Don’t bother,” Clayton said, watching as Sienna made her way onto the second floor at record speed.

He picked up her suitcase and followed.

Edna looked confused. “Are you sure you don’t want to eat?”

“I’m full already,” he replied flatly.

Indeed, he was full of anger.

And she’d even dumped the suitcase on him. Clayton thought she must have done that on purpose.

Edna felt baffled. She couldn’t figure out whether they had reconciled or not.

Passing by the master bedroom, Sienna noticed the wedding photo hanging neatly on the wall again.

Hearing the sound of the suitcase wheels behind her, she asked, “Did Edna put that back up too?”

Clayton stood casually behind her with one hand in his pocket. “She said that she didn’t have the energy to work when she didn’t see a certain face of a fool.”

A corner of Sienna’s mouth twitched. There was no way Edna had said that. Clearly, Clayton was sowing discord between them.

“More like she was scared stiff staring at that glacial face. That face could send a shiver down anyone’s spine,” Sienna quipped.

With that said, she snatched her suitcase straight from Clayton and headed for another room.

He called after her, “Where are you going?”

“The guest room. If I share a room with an iceberg, I’ll get frostbite,” Sienna said briskly.

Clayton was rendered speechless.

The next morning, Sienna was still half-asleep when she felt someone shaking her awake. She groggily opened her eyes, and the sight that greeted her was Clayton’s handsome face.

She was sure she had locked the door last night. How did he get in?

Sienna grabbed a pillow and hurled it at him, her face scrunched up in irritation. “Are you here to make me tie your tie again? How old are you? Even kindergarteners can dress themselves. Have you still not been weaned, Mr. Hale?”

Clayton caught the pillow easily. He was already fully dressed in a crisp, tailored suit.

He ordered, “Bring me lunch at noon.”

Clayton found the cafeteria food he’d been eating for the past week bland and uninteresting. Everything had been prepared by top chefs. They used fresh ingredients, and the food presentation was flawless. However, a certain taste that he’d never noticed before was starkly missing.

Sienna buried her face in the blanket and muttered, “I don’t have that kind of time.”

“Ten thousand dollars per trip,” Clayton said, naming his price.
