Chapter 34

Chapter 34

Clayton shot Melody a sideways glance and said coldly, “Do you plan to stand there until closing time?”

Melody shuffled over in small steps and asked in a choked voice, “Clay, I embarrassed you today, didn’t I?”

Clayton snapped back sharply, “With that little bit of resilience, you think you can make it into the entertainment industry? That place is a shark tank. When the time comes, are you going to start yanking others’ hair and fighting like a shrew every time you disagree with someone?”

In his memory, Melody had always been gentle and composed. What she had done shattered the image he had of her.

Melody wiped away her tears woefully. “Michelle was too overbearing. I was just cleaning my dress when she rushed in to curse at me and hit me. I couldn’t take it, so I fought back.”

Glancing at the scratches on her face, Clayton reminded her, “Go to the hospital and get your wounds treated. You’re going to be filming. Don’t let them scar.”

He turned and left after that curt reminder.

Melody hurried after him. “It’s really late. Can’t you take me home?”

She was in such a sorry state that she didn’t even have the confidence to face people alone. She didn’t expect Clayton to just

leave her there.

“Take a cab. I still have things to do.” Clayton didn’t look back as he walked out, already dialing Rowan’s number.

Sienna had just finished showering and lay down. She was just about to start scrolling on her phone when Rowan suddenly

called.

Rowan rarely called her directly. Could something urgent have happened at the Hale residence?

Her heart skipped a beat, and she answered the call immediately. “Hello?”

“Come downstairs,” Clayton ordered.

After everything he had put her through that night, Sienna was already at her limit. Her good mood was long gone. Sienna guessed Clayton had come to settle the score for the incident that evening. She didn’t bother to be polite toward him.

Sienna scolded loudly into the phone, “Do you take me for a dog that you can order around? Why do I have to come down when you tell me to? If you love barking orders so much, go to your company. There’s no point yelling at me. I’m not your subordinate!

“To think that you came running over in the middle of the night just to force an apology. Do you really have so much free time on your hands? If you’ve got nothing better to do, go to a construction site and do some physical labor to tire yourself out!

“Or are you really that petty? I guess I was right about you. You’re a vindictive man, after all!”

Clayton said one line, and Sienna fired back ten retorts.

She spoke extremely loudly too. Rowan, who was standing beside him, heard every word clearly. He couldn’t help wondering whether Clayton’s ears would survive that scolding.

Ever since Sienna started the whole divorce drama, her prowess in fighting back had undergone an epic-level upgrade.

After she finished venting, Clayton said languidly, “I’ll give you five minutes. Otherwise, I wouldn’t mind inviting that unfortunate best friend of yours to the police station for a cup of coffee.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” Sienna hissed.

“Four minutes and 54 seconds,” Clayton deadpanned.

Grinding her teeth, Sienna hung up. She shoved her feet into her slippers hastily and rushed downstairs in a flurry. After all, who knew what kind of dirty tricks Clayton might pull for his precious first love, Melody.

Downstairs, Clayton was leaning casually against his car. Rowan stood off to the side holding some documents.

Sienna didn’t even bother changing out of her pajamas. She ran over in a huff.

Then, she rattled off a whole tirade in one breath. “Did you want an apology? Fine! I’m sorry. I deliberately flung the steak at her face, and I also instigated Mich to beat her up. Mr. Hale, if you have any complaints, direct them at me.

“Hurry up and record this, so that you can just replay it next time. It saves you the trouble of forcing people to apologize every time, especially since you never apologize for anything yourself.”

Clayton didn’t take in a single word she said. Instead, his gaze traveled over her pajamas.

She was wearing a hoodie with the words “The Hottest Chick” printed across the front and floral pajama pants. Her hair was messy, and she wore a pair of bunny-ear slippers on her feet. She looked… kind of comical.

“There are things you didn’t take from the house,” he suddenly said.

“What?” Sienna was caught off guard.

“The jewelry and bags in the walk-in closet,” Clayton added.

Sienna looked up at him with a disdainful expression. “Leave them for your next wife. Consider it a wedding gift.”

“That’s generous of you,” Clayton remarked lightly. Then, he asked, “So you’re planning to leave with nothing?”

Sienna nodded. “Did you come over in the middle of the night just to confirm that? Have you finally made up your mind to go through with the divorce?”

A knowing smile played at the corner of Clayton’s lips. “Then, explain to me—why is a sapphire necklace missing?”
