Chapter 29

Miles definitely had the money to pay Sienna. However, he just couldn’t stand the fact that he had lost to her.

Blocking her number would be a cowardly move. So, Miles pretended as if he wasn’t using his WhatsApp account and ignored all of Sienna’s messages.

Clayton tossed the phone into Miles’ hands. “Why is she asking you for money? Did you borrow money from her?”

“Why would I need to borrow money from her?” Miles quickly explained. His voice grew weaker. “I lost the bet to her during the birthday banquet the other day and owed her a million dollars.”

“What did you two bet on?”

“I bet that she wouldn’t go on stage.” Miles shrank back a little. “I had no idea she had something prepared.”

Clayton cast a glance at him and remarked, “Don’t take a bet if you can’t stand losing. How could you break your promise afterward?”

Miles had meant to transfer the money to Sienna, but he just couldn’t swallow his pride. He opened an app on his phone and grumbled, “Fine! It’s only a million dollars. Others might think that I owe her more for her to send me so many messages every day. She was such an annoyance.”

Melody lowered her head and glanced at her watch. She suggested, “It’s almost time for dinner. Do you guys want to grab some food together? There’s a nice restaurant nearby. It’ll be my treat to thank you two for your help today.”

Miles accepted her offer right away. “Sure!”

Clayton got up from the couch and took his jacket. “I’ll pass. I’ll be meeting with some clients for dinner tonight.”

Somehow, the house felt empty to him these days. So, Clayton kept himself busy by filling his schedule every day. He even started meeting clients for meals, which he normally wouldn’t do.

Melody was a little disappointed. Still, she tried to be understanding and forced a smile. “Alright. I’ll treat you to some good food next time. We’ll get going, then.”

After she and Miles left, Clayton took his phone out and transferred ten thousand dollars to Sienna’s bank account.

Meanwhile, the screen of Sienna’s phone lit up. A notification about a recent transaction popped up.

“Account number ending 7878 received a credit of one million dollars.”

The corners of Sienna’s mouth lifted. Her relentless effort of bombarding Miles with countless messages had come to fruition.

This was a very quick way for Sienna to get a lot of money. She decided to make a bet with Miles again next time.

A few minutes later, a notification about another transaction popped up.

“Account number ending 7878 received a credit of ten thousand dollars.”

Sienna was a little confused. She checked the transaction record. The money was from Clayton. He even left a remark.

“Unblock my number. I helped persuade Miles to transfer that one million dollars to you.’

Sienna couldn’t believe how shameless he was. It was through her constant effort that she managed to claim the money from Miles. Yet, Clayton claimed that he was the reason she got the money.

Sienna paid no mind to that remark and placed her phone on the table with the screen facing down. Then, she continued looking through the paper materials. Sienna had to attend an interview tomorrow.

Jierre Studios was one of the top three design firms in their country. They had won multiple awards and prizes over the years.

The firm specialized in designing spaces such as commercial properties and luxury residences. They also had an excellent reputation in the industry.

This was the company Sienna wanted to work for the most. She had done a lot of homework. Not only did she look through some notable cases that Jierre Studios had handled over the last five years, but Sienna had also studied their style and design philosophies.

Sienna was quite surprised when she arrived at the venue for the interview the next day. The corridor was packed with her competitors awaiting their turn for the interview.

There were at least 40 people there, yet there were only several openings.

Sienna sat in the waiting area. She could somewhat hear the conversations of those around her.

“I heard they went through thousands of resumes and selected only a few dozen of us for the interview.”

“My supervisor said that Jierre Studios only takes students from elite schools to be their interns.”

Sienna lowered her head and looked at her portfolio. It consisted of designs for her college graduation project and her competition entries from back then.

Even though she had read up on various cases recently, Sienna’s experience was considered rather lackluster compared to that of her competitors, who mostly had actual experience handling projects.
