Chapter 24
Sienna sounded as if she was really surprised. “Excellent! You should make me the female lead of this show then, Ms. Sutton.”
“You want to be the female lead? Dream on.” Rosa had a smug look on her face. “I’ll see how well you perform later, then.”
“You’ll have to wait for quite a while. I just decided to join the audition. So, I’m probably one of the last few people to meet the judges.” Sienna made that up.
Rosa’s heels clacked as she walked away. Meanwhile, Michelle came back to her seat. “Isn’t that Rosa Sutton? What’s she doing here?”
“She’s the show producer.”
“What? That woman doesn’t like me either. Doesn’t that mean I’m going to fail the audition for sure?”
Michelle instantly lost her confidence. She was contemplating whether she should still stand before the panel of judges, which had Rosa as one of the members.
“Perhaps it’s a good thing, though.” Sienna whispered into her ear. “Once you meet the judges, you should…”
Michelle nodded pensively. “I’ll give it a try, then. There’s no harm in trying since my chances are already a bit low to begin
with.”
Just then, Sienna’s phone rang. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw Irene’s name displayed on the screen.
Irene had been calling her quite often these days to get her to attend various social events. Sienna had used all sorts of excuses to refuse going.
She thought that Irene was calling her for the same reason again. She let out a sigh and answered the phone. “Mom, I…”
Irene cut her off. “Sienna, why didn’t you tell us about what happened between Clay and Melody during last week’s birthday banquet? Your grandpa was furious when he found out about it. He scolded Clay and fainted because he got too emotional.”
Sienna’s eyes widened. “How is Grandpa now?”
“The family doctor came. Your grandpa has been asking for you ever since he woke up. You should hurry over to the Hale
residence now.”
Sienna ended the call and told Michelle she had to leave first. Then, she took a cab to the Hale residence.
As soon as she stepped into the living room, Sienna got scolded by Irene. “Why didn’t you inform us as soon as something so absurd had happened? We found out about it through someone else. How could you be so careless?”
“I’m careless? Is Clayton not careless for doing what he did that day, then?” Sienna grumbled inwardly.
However, she did not try to talk back. She said in a low voice, “Mom, I thought it wasn’t a big deal.”
“It wasn’t a big deal?” Irene was exasperated. She replied in a harsh tone, “How could it not be a big deal when your grandpa fainted after hearing about it? Does it only seem like a big deal if he’s admitted to the ICU?”
Clifford interrupted Irene, since he couldn’t stand hearing what she was saying anymore. “That’s enough. What’s the use in saying that now?”
The family doctor came down the stairs just then. Irene went up to him and asked, “Dr. Withers, how is he now?”
“Mr. Hale Senior passed out because he was too emotional.” Benjamin Withers nudged the bridge of his glasses up his nose slightly.
“We noticed signs of atherosclerosis during his recent check-up. He needs to go for surgery as soon as possible.”
Clifford sighed wearily. “Dad has always hated the idea of undergoing surgery.”

It dawned on Sienna then that Albert, Clifford, and Clayton were probably discussing this in the study the other day.
“He can’t go for the surgery at the moment.” Benjamin explained, “Quite a few of the diagnostic results came back with bad numbers. He has high blood lipids and hypertension. Undergoing surgery would be too risky for him now.
“The best way would be for him to rest and recuperate at home for at least a month. It would be better for him to go for the surgery after his condition had stabilized. Make sure not to upset or agitate him during this period. Just go along with his
wishes.”
After they saw Benjamin off, Irene reminded Sienna, “Your grandpa asked for you as soon as he woke up. Remember what the doctor said, and don’t say anything to upset him.”
Sienna lowered her gaze. Her plan to inform Albert about her decision to divorce Clayton was ruined.
While going up the stairs, Sienna saw Clayton leaning against the railing and puffing on his cigarette. He seemed slightly troubled.
Sienna furrowed her brows. She walked over to him and grumbled, “What are you doing standing here with that depressed look on your face?”
