Chapter 22
“Stop. I called you in to hear your reports regarding work.” Clayton cut him off right away.
Rowan paused momentarily. “Didn’t you instruct me to look into this yesterday, though?”
“It’s called keeping work and private matters separate, understood?” Clayton cast him an icy glance. “There’s no need to bring up matters regarding that woman during work hours.”
Rowan was rendered speechless.
As expected, his boss’ temperament was extremely unpredictable.
Yesterday, Clayton had ordered Rowan to find out what had happened and report to him the first thing the next morning. Yet, Clayton simply referred to Sienna as “that woman” today.
It was just impossible for Rowan to guess what Clayton was thinking.
Clayton noticed that Rowan just stood there stiffly. He smirked. “Do you feel wronged as well? Are you thinking of handing in your resignation?”
“No… no!” Rowan felt a chill run down his spine. He quickly headed for the door. “I’ll go and prepare all the materials needed for today’s meeting right away.”
A short while later, Clayton received a call from Miles. “Clayton, Melody is getting discharged from the hospital today. Are you going to…”
Clayton interrupted him, “Her legs are fine. She can leave the hospital on her own. I’m not free.”
Miles paused briefly before asking spitefully, “Have you met Sienna and settled the score with her yet? That awful wench…”
“What?” Clayton’s voice hardened. “Am I required to report everything I do to you now?”
He hung up immediately after saying that.
Meanwhile, Miles had a look of bewilderment on his face. He couldn’t help but wonder if Clayton had eaten something wrong this morning to put him in such a bad mood.
At the hospital, Melody still had a bandage over her forehead. She looked at Miles expectantly. “What did Clay say? Is he coming to pick me up from the hospital today?”
“He’s very busy today, so he won’t be able to come.” Miles chuckled dryly and consoled her. “Aren’t you planning to enter the entertainment industry? You should rest and recuperate at home for now.”
Melody dropped her gaze and fell silent.
In the afternoon, Hayden slowly walked into Clayton’s office. He asked, “How did it go with Sienna yesterday? Did the two of you fight?”
Clayton kept his head low as he went through some documents. He said flatly, “She left the house.”
Hayden raised his brows. “Didn’t you search for her whereabouts?”
“I did.” Clayton sneered. “She was holding a kitchen knife when she saw me.”
Hayden shook his head and clicked his tongue. He shared some advice based on his previous dating experience.
“You ought to do something to appease her anger. Get her some flowers or buy her an expensive bag. She’ll soften up and forgive you once you offer her a sincere apology.”
Clayton lifted his gaze and stared at Hayden as if he was looking at a fool. “She’s the one who’s taken off because she feels guilty. Why should I apologize to her? She’ll forgive me? Forgive me for what?”

Hayden put one hand on his forehead and said, “Do you honestly not know, or are you just pretending not to?”
Clayton had a puzzled look on his face.
Hayden raised a finger. “Firstly, I won’t comment on what happened at the boutique since I wasn’t there. However, during yesterday’s birthday banquet, Sienna was forced to give her seat to Melody. As her husband, you stayed silent the whole time.
“That was Melody’s seat.” Clayton put down his pen and grumbled, “Besides, she just got up and left without even trying to ask for my help. Am I at fault for that too?”
Hayden rolled his eyes and said, “Secondly, you left while carrying Melody in your arms with all those people watching. You left Sienna standing on the stage by herself. Did you think any woman in their right mind wouldn’t be upset if their husband did that?”
“It was an emergency.” Clayton raised his voice and replied righteously, “Should I have stood by and not helped Melody, then?”
“Oh!” Hayden’s brows arched. “Have you decided to quit your job and become a paramedic instead, Mr. Hale? Are you going to help every woman that trips and falls within your line of sight? Perhaps I should do that right in front of your house tomorrow.”
“Hayden.” Clayton shot him a glare. “Are you itching to get a beating?”
“Thirdly, did you apologize to her afterward? You didn’t even try to explain to her, did you?”
Hayden continued, “Or are you assuming that Sienna will magically understand the reason behind your actions?”
After a brief pause, Clayton snorted. “She left the house several times previously. She’ll come back by herself in a few days.”
