Chapter 8
“The number you have called-”
Asher was tipsy, and he swayed slightly: “Why isn’t it Jules’ voice?”
He smacked his phone a few times and yelled, “Honey! Darling! Answer the phone, Jules!”
Zachary grabbed him to stop his drunken tirade. “Stop shouting, Asher. You’ve been blocked.”
“Blocked? Jules loves me the most. Why would she block me?”
Asher slumped back down in his seat and shook his head as he regained some of his rationality. “I remember now. She really did block me! No! I have to explain!”
He got up again, but his footsteps were unsteady.
“Yes. You should resolve the conflict between you.”
Zachary grabbed him. He could see that Asher was determined to go, and that it would seem too deliberate for him to suggest breaking up again.
“The temperature has dropped over the past two days. I heard on the weather report that it’s going to rain tonight.
“She’s so stubborn that she definitely isn’t going to take good care of herself. Who’s going to look after her if she gets sick?”
Zachary turned and handed Asher a glass of wine.
“Yes. She’s not very strong, but she always insists on acting tough.”
Asher’s gaze roved around the room as he searched for his car key. When he saw the glass of wine that was being held to his lips, he took it instinctively and drank it all.
Zachary moved to block the car key from view as he continued to talk to him. “I remember that once when we were in high school, she insisted on going to class even though she had a high fever of over 103 degrees. She was afraid that if she fell behind, she would be unable to get into the same college as you.

Zachary poured out more wine and continued to clink glasses with Asher.
Asher felt even more anxious.

rotation.
After they got married, she would warm her feet on his stomach. She was timid and always had a light on when she slept. He was the one who would put her to sleep before turning off the lights and going to sleep himself.
“I’ve got to get my wife back!”
Zachary looked at his flushed face and wandering gaze and began to reason with him. “What you need to do now is to bring her home by force. You can only talk about the future once she agrees to stay with you.”
Asher nodded, looking befuddled. “No matter what, I’ve got to bring her home tonight!”
“That’s right.” Zachary picked up the car key on the floor and handed it to him, smiling warmly.
“My assistant is here. I’ll tell him to drive you over. Make sure you stay safe.”
“Thanks, pal.” Asher patted him on the shoulder and stumbled out of the club.
Once the door closed, Zachary’s gentle smile disappeared at once.
He picked up his unfinished glass of whiskey, and the amber liquid swirled slightly. He downed the glass in one gulp, and the icy liquid slid down his throat.
A smile appeared on his lips. Asher could go. He would only push Juliet further away with his arrogance, right into Zachary’s waiting arms.
It was midnight. Juliet had finally finished all her translation work for the day, and she let out a long sigh of relief.
Exhaustion washed over her, and she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
Meanwhile, a black Cullinan stopped outside her building. Asher got out of the car and hurried inside, smelling strongly of alcohol.
“0817 is wrong,” a robotic female voice said warningly.
“That can’t be. I remember that she used my birthday.”
Asher’s hand hovered over the keypad, veins bulging on the back of his hand.
He could see his vacant gaze reflected on the screen, which glowed slightly blue. The mistake he had made ignited his frustration, especially in his drunk state.
