Chapter 21
Juliet shook her head, her lips pale. “I’m fine, just a little tired.”
The words had barely left her mouth when her stomach churned violently again. She covered her mouth and rushed toward the bathroom. “Ugh…”
Ariane followed close behind. She patted her back gently, eyes full of concern. “And you still say you’re fine! If you go on like this, both you and the baby will be in trouble. What’s more important-money or your lives?”
She helped Juliet back to the couch, her tone more serious than it had ever been. “Juliet, listen to me. If you’ve decided to keep this child, then you have to take responsibility. You’re not alone anymore.”
Juliet leaned back against the couch and closed her eyes. How could she not know that?
‘t
worry about money. If you’re short, I still have some savings.”
That night, inside the most exclusive private room at Lancaster Club. Asher held a half-burned cigar between his fingers.
His phone lay on the table in front of him, empty of the one message he wanted to see. Juliet hadn’t returned the money, nor did she say a word. Asher had nowhere to vent his anger.
“Still worried, Ash?” A man in a floral shirt leaned over. It was Matthew Hunt, his childhood
friend. He handed Ash a glass of whiskey. “Is all this really worth it for a woman? One call and she’ll crawl right back. What’s the big deal?”
Asher didn’t take the drink. He only shot Matthew a cold glance. “You don’t know shit.”
Matthew laughed it off. “No, I don’t. But I do know that women can’t be spoiled. Look at Juliet. She used to be so obedient, never daring to defy you. And now? She wants a divorce, and she’s blocked you.”
He put an arm around Asher’s shoulder, speaking like a seasoned veteran. “She’s gotten used to the good life. You keep her on a pedestal, and she starts thinking she’s some kind of goddess.”
Asher exhaled a ring of smoke, his sharp features blurred behind it. “My Juliet is a goddess.” Then, he shot Matthew a sharp look. “Don’t think I forgot that you wrote her a love letter in 11th grade.”

Matthew instantly pulled his arm back, laughing awkwardly. What the hell? He had been so careful, and Asher still knew?
Back then, Asher always kept his distance, looking aloof while Juliet quietly took care of him. It turned out his eyes had been locked on her the whole time!
Honestly, back then, Juliet wasn’t just innocent. She was gentle, delicate, yet charming. One tearful glance from her carried a fragile, melancholic beauty. If Asher hadn’t protected her, plenty of hungry wolves would’ve torn apart that innocent little lamb.
The others started teasing.
“Matty, you little rascal, you’ve actually had your eyes on Ash’s wife?”
“You’ve got some balls. And you still dare say she’s not a goddess?”
“Even celebrities can’t compare to Juliet. No wonder Ash loves her.”
Zachary, who had been silent, opened a bottle and shoved it into Matthew’s hands. “As punishment, finish this whole bottle.”
“What? This is 108-proof liquor, Zach! Are you trying to kill me?” Matthew tried to laugh it off and put it back. But Zachary pressed down on his arm hard.
“Ah! Easy, Zach! That hurts!”
Zachary cast a glance at Asher. “Asher, don’t you think he should be punished?”
“Absolutely!” Asher snapped, finally finding an outlet for his frustration. “In high school, I let it slide for the sake of our studies. Now, Matty, we can settle the score for eyeing my wife!”
Matthew grimaced in pain, clutching the bottle of liquor. He was on the verge of tears.
“She wasn’t even your wife back then!” he protested inwardly.
With two big shots staring him down, it was clear that if he wanted to survive the night, he’d be leaving the club horizontally.
