Chapter 15
“Jules, you liked sweeter flavors back in our schooling days. That hasn’t changed, has it?”
Zachary’s question caught Juliet off guard. He was actually that attentive that he had noticed
and remembered her taste.
Juliet nodded. “It hasn’t changed. I just try to eat less sweet things now.”
Zachary chuckled teasingly. “Afraid you’ll get cavities? I still remember when you had a
toothache in ninth grade. You were in so much pain that you didn’t even want to walk. Asher and I took turns carrying you out of the school gates for days.”
“At the time, so many girls were jealous of me. Two of the school’s heartthrobs were taking care of me.” Juliet smiled too, her eyes curving softly. “Later, Asher confiscated all my candy, and you sneaked them to me. But for some reason, my teeth never hurt when I ate the candy from you.
IT
“Of course. They were custom-made for you. You can’t find that kind of candy on the market that’s sweet yet gentle on your teeth.” Zachary stopped walking and pulled a piece of candy from his pocket. “I thought you didn’t like sweets anymore.”
“Custom-made candy… for me?” Juliet lowered her gaze to the familiar candy wrapper resting in his palm. It felt like a sweet trap, luring her in.
Back at the apartment, Juliet was still savoring the candy. Zach had actually had candy specially made for her. Why had he never said anything?
Juliet had known Zachary for over ten years. He was the kind of man who looked gentle and courteous on the surface, but always kept a distance from everyone. He was not easy to get
close to.
She and Zachary were a year apart in school, and their only connection had been Asher. Even then, it was always in a group of five or six boys. Those friends close to Asher all knew she was housekeeper’s daughter and looked down on her. Some even thought she

It wasn’t until college, when Asher publicly acknowledged Juliet as his girlfriend, that they finally began to treat her with a bit of respect. All along, Zachary was the only one who treated her as an equal.
Looking back now, she realized there were so many details in which Zachary had treated her differently from others. Could it be…

Chapter 15
No. Impossible. How could Zach ever like her? He was simply a gentle, well-mannered man who showed respect to his good friend’s girlfriend.
The long-forgotten sweetness eased Juliet’s mood significantly. It wasn’t that she had stopped liking sweets as she grew up. She was simply accommodating Asher’s picky taste. For Asher, she had given up more of herself than she realized.
“Zach, go sit and rest for a bit. I’ll cook.”
Zachary took off his coat and casually hung it on the rack by the door. He rolled up his sleeves, revealing his lean, muscular arms. “Let me handle it today,” he said as he stepped into the kitchen, pulling pork ribs out of the grocery bag.
The kitchen was small. With just one extra person, it felt crowded. Zachary’s tall figure almost blocked out the light as he stood there.
Juliet watched him pick up the kitchen knife. His long fingers gripped the handle confidently, his movements efficient. It was clear it wasn’t his first time cooking
She was surprised as she had never seen this side of him. In her mind, Zachary was like Asher, a man born with a silver spoon, never having to lift a finger to do chores.
“I… I’ll help you.”
“Alright.” Zachary didn’t refuse. A faint smile curved at his lips!
Juliet pulled a cartoon cat apron from the cupboard. “Zach, you should wear an apron.”
Zachary lifted his arms. “Help me put it on. My hands are greasy from the meat.”
“Bend down a little.”
Zachary complied, lowering himself slightly. Juliet tiptoed, stretching her arms just to loop the apron strap over his neck. Their faces ended up unavoidably close, close enough for her to see his thick eyelashes, which looked even better than a woman’s eyelash extensions.
When he glanced sideways at her, his eyes caught the light, hazy and dreamy, creating the fleeting illusion of being deeply cherished.
Juliet hurriedly pulled her hands back, hiding her fluster. She stepped behind him to tie the apron strings at his waist. Once done, his waistline was fully outlined, his firm silhouette clear. Her gaze was drawn to his backside. She couldn’t look away.
