Asher was the CEO of Greene Corporation. His time was filled with all kinds of meetings, international business, and entertainment for work.
Efficiency was of the utmost importance for him, and he even ate quickly.
Juliet and Asher had never had such a down-to-earth experience together. They never discussed what to eat for dinner, and they had never bargained with a stall owner over a dollar
or two.
Their life together had been more like a carefully arranged business partnership. Asher was the decisive one who led the way, while Juliet was the one who obeyed meekly.
He was in charge of hacking out a path for them, and he was in control of everything. She was the one who was supposed to take care of things behind the scenes and smooth out his relationships with others. She attended any event that required her presence as his wife and
played the role perfectly.
If Evangeline hadn’t gotten involved, the two of them would probably have continued being the “perfect couple”.
Their life after marriage was no longer as intimate as it had been when they were young.
Juliet’s thoughts were wandering. She thought about how Asher had only been in charge of a minor company under Greene Corporation before they were married.
They had danced with a bunch of young strangers on the streets of Payria and laughed like fools. They had lived in a tiny town in Sontarini for half a month.
Asher had gone everywhere just to buy local delicacies for her. He had rented a motorcycle and taken her for a romantic, windy ride along the coastal road. It had felt so freeing.
He had even made a promise to her when they stood together on the shores of the Lovean Ocean. “Jules, let’s go to a place like this every year in the future, just the two of us.
Many of the photos hung on the wall at home had been taken at that time.
After that, Asher had become the CEO of Greene Corporation.

On their first wedding anniversary, he went on a business trip to Newoll and merely sent back an expensive handbag.
On their second wedding anniversary, he didn’t come home for the entire night because he was busy dealing with an urgent public relations crisis at work.

On the third, he had been at the hospital with a pregnant Evangeline.
His promise of going to a new place every year had ended up being empty words, and their marriage had become hollow.
They were a couple, but Juliet could not find even a shred of warmth between them. Would all men change into a different person after marriage?
“Jules?”
Zachary’s voice pulled Juliet back to reality.
She looked up at the tall man beside her, who was smiling at her. His pale gray eyes seemed to shimmer slightly, and it made him look tender and devoted.
“What are you thinking about? You were miles away.”
“N-Nothing much.”
Juliet blushed slightly, and it made her look so stunning that Zachary felt slightly dazzled.
As they walked out of the market, the sunshine shone warmly on them, and a gentle breeze tickled their cheeks. It felt comfortable and relaxing.
Juliet did not notice a loose tile underfoot, and her ankle twisted slightly. A hand reached out naturally to take her arm and steady her.
“Watch where you’re stepping.”
Juliet regained her balance and said softly, “Thank you, Zach.”
The two of them walked side by side back to the apartment, and neither of them spoke again.
Juliet glanced at Zachary’s side profile. His face seemed to glow slightly in the sun, making him look warm and gentle.
She felt her heart flutter, and in the midst of her inner turmoil, she thought of Asher again.
Perhaps she was just used to living the life of an ordinary person, since she was a housekeeper’s daughter. Asher was so far out of her league. She should never have walked into
his world.
Juliet’s mother and grandmother had both been housekeepers for the Greenes.
Her grandmother had taken care of Alicia Keller, who was Asher’s grandmother. In order to ensure that they would not have to take too many days off, Alicia had arranged for Juliet and her mother to live in the staff quarters.

Her father had planned for her to find a rich husband at the prestigious school she attended, so he had never skimped on buying clothes for her.
