To fit into his circle, I once begged him to take me gaming.
He scolded me terribly, calling me a noob and a burden.
Today he was being gracious, but I didn’t care.
Just as I went to hang up, Eva’s voice came through.
“Miles, I feel like vomiting again, it’s all your fault! That night I just wanted to
see if I had feelings for men, and you did it for real.”
“Ouch, my waist hurts. Come rub it.”
“Can you comfort your little girlfriend later? Between a bro and a woman,
who is more important?”
Miles threw a sentence at me: “If you’re not going to talk, forget it. I can’t be
bothered.”
The line went dead. My brain buzzed.
What “drunken accident”? It was premeditated.
Every date, he got bored and gamed with Eva late into the night.
When we traveled, he insisted on bringing Eva to “liven the atmosphere.”
Her chat was pinned to the top of his phone with a special sound.
Valentine’s Day gifts always included a portion for Eva because “it’s pathetic
for her to be single.”
If I questioned it, he flew into a rage.
“Are you addicted to making trouble? Let’s just break up!”
“Don’t think you can control me just because your dad has money!”
I had always been humble as dust before him.
Sensitive. Suspicious. Stupid. The labels he gave me.
Even when my dad introduced clients, Miles twisted it into an insult to his
abilities.
The next day was the school’s centennial.
Miles and Eva attended as guests.
The host jokingly asked, “You two look so talented and beautiful, could you
be a couple?”
Miles swept a cold glance at me. I looked away.
Eva put her hand on his shoulder. “Do we look like it? Actually, we are bro—”
Miles suddenly embraced her waist. “That’s right, we already have a baby.”
The audience erupted in cheers.
Whispers started behind me. “I heard a shameless follower pestered him for
three years… finally, that follower succeeded.”
“If it weren’t for her family’s money, would a straw bag like her be worthy?”
I turned to look straight at them. “Are you done? Say it to my face.”
They muttered, “We didn’t name names. You’re assuming”
Miles and Eva sat down next to me.
Eva hypocritically advised, “Bianca, you are too sensitive.”
Miles sneered. “Sick in the head!”
With their backing, the gossips gained confidence. “Exactly, looking for
trouble.”
Just then, the host invited me up to speak.
I stood up. Eva stuck her leg out and tripped me.
“Bang!” I fell heavily.
Pain attacked my body. My face burned. My fingertips came away stained
with blood.
The venue fell silent.
“Junior Bianca is just too excited?” someone laughed.
Miles scolded me in a low voice, “Get up! You’re embarrassing us!”
Eva pretended to help. “Bianca, don’t be willful on such an occasion.”
My anger exploded. I slapped her hand away.
“Stop pretending! Eva, why did you trip me?”
“Ah!” She fell backward, clutching her stomach.
“Bianca! I tried to help you! Why push me? What if you hurt the baby?”
“Women are such a hassle! If it weren’t for Miles’ sake, I’d really give you a
piece of my mind today!”
She turned to Miles. “Control your woman. I’m sick of these women fighting
out of jealousy!”
I laughed in anger. I saw her smirk of success.
I forced myself up, raising my hand to slap her.
Miles lunged and backhanded me across the face.
My vision went black. The venue exploded into chaos.
Miles wiped the blood from his hand in disgust. “Bianca, get the hell out!”
I stared at him blankly.
“Miles, after so many years, couldn’t there be just one time where
you
stood
on my side?”
