The mention of Autumn snapped Zachary back to reality. He couldn’t throw away his future over Kristen. He needed to keep it together if he wanted any chance of winning Autumn back.
But he wasn’t about to let the Reeves family or Kristen off the hook either.
Zachary went on a complete rampage. He had Kristen committed to a psychiatric hospital as her legal husband and made sure she suffered there. At the same time, he ruthlessly went after the Reeves family’s business.
The Reeves family had only forced Zachary to marry Kristen in the first place because they were drowning in debt and desperately needed the Hayes family’s financial support.
Now that the Hayes family had pulled their investment, the Reeves family quickly spiraled into crisis.
When Logan and Vanessa found out that Kristen had pissed off Zachary, they stopped caring about her and frantically tried to contact Autumn, the daughter they had abandoned.
Meanwhile in Southcrest, Autumn had no idea any of this was happening.
Getting back into dance turned out to be harder than she had imagined, and she threw herself completely into practice.
Every morning before sunrise, she was already in the studio working on her flexibility and leg stretches, repeating the same boring basic exercises over and over.
Her practice clothes were constantly drenched in sweat, but she never felt tired. Every spin and leap made her feel like she was touching a dream she had lost a long time ago.
Two months later, Rebecca burst into the studio practically bouncing with excitement. “Autumn, Samantha Jensen saw your dance videos and wants to take you on as a student!”
Autumn froze, and then her face lit
up
with pure joy. “Are you serious?”
Samantha was one of the top classical dance masters in the country, and training under her would take Autumn’s skills to a whole new level.
“I’m dead serious!” Rebecca waved a letter around. “Look, she personally invited you to join her dance company.”
Autumn grabbed the invitation and her whole body started shaking with emotion. She had dreamed about joining this company for years, but she never thought it would actually happen

Rebecca glanced behind Autumn and winked. “You better thank this guy properly. If he hadn’t worked his ass off to get in touch with Samantha, your dance videos never would’ve gotten in front of her so fast.”
Rebecca gave Autumn a playful shove right into Damon’s arms. “Autumn, don’t you think life’s better when you’ve got both a great career and a great relationship? What do you think?”
Autumn looked down shyly but didn’t say anything. Ever since she’d agreed to give Damon a chance, things had been moving forward between them thanks to his constant efforts and Rebecca’s subtle matchmaking.
They’d definitely crossed the line from just friends, but they hadn’t quite reached the point of being a real couple yet.
Damon steadied Autumn gently. “Don’t listen to Rebecca. If you’re not ready to say yes, it just means I haven’t done enough yet. I’ll keep working on it until you’re happy to be with me.”
Maybe it was the warmth in his eyes, or maybe it was just the beautiful moonlight that night, but something shifted inside Autumn.
She smiled and said, “Damon, I think Rebecca’s right. Life really is better when you have both your career and your love life figured out. So… would you be my boyfriend?”
Damon’s face lit up instantly and he pulled her into a hug. “Yes! God, yes!”
By the time Zachary finally wrapped up all his business and tried to win Autumn back, his assistant delivered some shocking news. Autumn was getting engaged.
Zachary stared at the photos his assistant handed him. They showed Autumn and Damon kissing, looking completely in love.
His chest tightened painfully. How was this possible? How could Autumn be engaged to someone else? She’d promised she would wait for him and never fall for anyone else.
Of course, Zachary conveniently forgot that Autumn had never actually promised him anything. He told his assistant to book the earliest flight to Southcrest. He was going to bring
Autumn back himself.
Meanwhile, at the psychiatric hospital, two nurses were chatting during their break. “Did you see today’s trending news? That girl Autumn is amazing.”
“I know, right? She’s gorgeous, an incredible dancer, and her fiancé looks like a movie star. I’m so jealous.”

“I heard she’s the younger sister of that patient in there. How can two sisters have such different lives?”

Kristen listened to their conversation, her eyes filled with hatred.

Zachary had locked her up in this place and paid off the staff to abuse her. Over the past few months, they’d beaten her so badly that she didn’t have a single unmarked spot left on her body.
Why did Autumn get to be so happy when she was suffering like this? It wasn’t fair.
“Autumn, you deserve to die! Zachary, you too! Both of you should just die!” she yelled, her voice hoarse.
Her screaming caught the attention of the orderly. “Shut up, or we’ll beat the shit out of you!”
Kristen spotted a lighter on the table and pretended to calm down. She waited quietly for nightfall.
When everything went quiet that night, Kristen set the bedsheets and curtains on fire. The moment the orderlies rushed in to check on the situation, she smashed them over the head with a water pitcher and escaped.
“Autumn, Zachary, I’ll make you both pay for this!”

The day before the engagement party, Logan and Vanessa tracked Autumn down after seeing the news trending online.
“Autumn, please, you have to save Kristen. Zachary locked her up somewhere…” Vanessa started, but Logan shoved her aside before she could finish.
“Autumn, don’t listen to your mother! Save the Reeves Group first. I know your fiancé’s family has just as much money as the Hayes family. With his help, we can get back on our feet for
sure.”
Autumn had known this day would come ever since her dance troupe’s debut accidentally went viral. She just hadn’t expected the Reeves family to be facing bankruptcy so soon, or that Kristen and Zachary would have a falling out.
She looked at her begging parents and stuck to what she’d told them before. “Mr. and Mrs. Reeves, we legally severed our relationship, remember? Other than the monthly support payments, we have nothing to discuss.”
Logan panicked. “Autumn, you’re all alone right now. Aren’t you worried that one day you’ll get old and lose your looks, and your husband will kick you out with nowhere to go? If the Reeves family is still around, you’ll always have a place to come back to, won’t you?”
“That’s never going to happen.”
Damon cut Logan off without any politeness and ordered his security team to restrain them both. “If you cooperate, I’ll make sure you’re taken care of even after the Reeves family goes under. But if you try anything stupid, I’ll make you regret it.”
He put his arm around Autumn and led her away.
On the drive back, Damon glanced at Autumn, who looked completely unfazed by everything. He couldn’t help asking, “Autumn, aren’t you worried about what they said back there?”
Autumn laughed softly, “What’s there to worry about? Elowen gave me enough in the divorce settlement to support myself, and I can always make money from dancing. Besides, didn’t you say you had something to give me too?”
Damon’s face showed a rare flash of annoyance. “God, Rebecca’s such a blabbermouth. Why does she have to tell everyone everything? I wanted this to be a surprise for the engagement…”
He pulled out the signed property transfer agreement and handed it to Autumn. “Autumn, this is my promise to you, my guarantee.”
