Married at First Sight Chapter 43

Chapter 43
With a warm smile, Grandma May said, “Why can’t you? You’re legally married. Zack isn’t stepping up to the plate, so it’s your turn to give me a great-grandchild.”
Serenity felt a blush rise to her cheeks. “Nana, I’ll be honest. I just can’t seem to do that when I look at your grandson’s stoic face.”
Nana, “…”
Just like his grandfather, Zachary naturally had a serious and detached demeanor. It took Grandma May years to soften the heart of Zachary’s grandfather when she first met him.
“Even if I wanted to, he would freeze me out before I could get anywhere near him. He gives me the creeps.”
Nana, “…”
“But don’t worry about Zachary and me, Nana. Things will unfold in their own time.”
Serenity viewed their current living situation as simply being roommates.
However, that didn’t stop Grandma May from worrying. As her chosen granddaughter-in-law, Grandma May had gone to great lengths to make the marriage happen, even against the wishes of her son and daughter-in-law. She would feel crushed if Serenity were unhappy in her marriage.
“Alright then. I’ll leave you two to it, I suppose. Just do your thing while I tidy up the place for you.”
Grandma May was not one to sit idly at home; she often helped manage the plants with the gardeners. In her earlier years, she assisted with the estate’s fields but had stopped due to her children’s persistent advice against it. Grandma May even considered applying for a cleaning job at the family-owned company, but a single stern look from Zachary killed that idea instantly.
This wasn’t the first time Grandma May had come by the shop to chat with Serenity. Serenity understood it was challenging for Nana to take it easy after a lifetime of hard work. Since cleaning didn’t require much effort, she let Grandma May busy herself while she focused on other things.

While Grandma May was dusting the bookshelves, she noticed how charming Serenity looked, completely engrossed in her craft. Seizing the moment, Grandma May discreetly pulled out her phone and positioned herself behind the shelf to record a video of Serenity at work.

Without hesitation, she sent the video to her dear grandson, Zachary. However, Grandma May knew that Zachary might not respond. Regardless, it didn’t concern her; what mattered was that he would see the video. Serenity was like a captivating book, filled with surprises waiting to be discovered, and Grandma May was determined to get her grandson intrigued enough to start reading.

Time has a way of slipping away when one is focused on a task. By the time Serenity completed all her preorders, it was already past six in the evening. Jasmine had a date scheduled for half-past seven.

The date was set to take place at Beans and Cream, Wiltspoon’s trendiest coffee house located right in the city center. The owner had invested in soundproofing, making it a peaceful escape from the bustling city. It was a perfect spot for relaxation, away from the interruptions of daily life.

Beans and Cream was thriving, attracting many visitors, including those who weren’t even coffee enthusiasts—they came just to enjoy the calm atmosphere.

Jasmine arrived to pick up her best friend on a motorbike. When Grandma May saw Jasmine’s mode of transport, she asked, “Jas, why don’t you just walk there?”

After taking off her helmet, Jasmine flashed a grin and replied, “I love the thrill of riding with the wind. The traffic is terrible at this hour, but that won’t slow me down.”

“Have you eaten, Grandma May? Maybe I should take you with me. You’ve experienced it all before. Why not check out the guy for me? My aunt mentioned he works at Stone Group,” Jasmine suggested.

Stone Group is notable as the second-largest corporation in Wiltspoon, right after the affluent York Corporation.

Both companies set a high bar for hiring talent, making it a point of pride to work there.

Grandma May responded with a playful smile, “Serenity and I enjoyed takeout. Callum will be picking me up soon, so I’ll sit this one out and let you enjoy your date. Even at my age, I’ve still got it. Who knows? Your date might end up falling for me!”
