Chapter 302
“Your husband might reject you for being fat and ugly. You’ll have something to cry about when he finds a young and beautiful girl.”
The words struck Liberty deeply. She was eager to find a job because her husband had found her unattractive and cheated on her. Lowering her expectations, she applied for a clerical position, hoping to gain custody of her son. It never crossed Liberty’s mind that she would face rejection and humiliation in this setting.
“Call me a fat cow one more time!”
The interviewer walked around the table, approaching Liberty to shove her out while hurling insults. “Fat cow! Fat cow! I’ll say it again and again. Get out of here!”
This time, Liberty’s size worked to her advantage. She firmly planted her feet, making it difficult for the woman to push her out.
“You need to apologize to me. I’m not leaving until you do.”
Furious, the woman turned back to her desk and picked up her phone to call security to remove Liberty.
Within moments, two security guards arrived.
Men are generally stronger than women, and with two of them, they overpowered Liberty to force her out.
“Let go of me! I want her to apologize! She was verbally abusive!”
Liberty struggled against them. The anxiety of not finding a job, her husband’s betrayal, and a profound sense of loss for her future churned inside her, intensifying her emotions.
Given her size and strength, the two security guards struggled to subdue her vigorous resistance.
The woman exited the interview room and summoned a few male coworkers to assist the security guards in escorting Liberty out.
With the added help, Liberty was forcibly removed from the office building.
“What’s happening here?”
Duncan was entering the building with a client when he encountered the group.
Pulling a long face, his secretary attempted to clarify the situation.
“This woman came for an interview, but for some reason, she ended up in a confrontation with Ms. Chaplin. Ms. Chaplin instructed us to escort her out,” one of the security guards explained.
The secretary waved his arm. “Take her away.”
“Wait a moment.”
Duncan recognized the woman being escorted by several men as the plump individual who had damaged his luxury sedans. She was the sister-in-law of his best friend, Zachary.
Everyone froze in place.
Liberty seized the opportunity to free herself from their grip. Gasping for breath from the struggle, she straightened her clothes and hurried back to pick up her resume, which had scattered across the floor. Just as she was about to leave, a human wall blocked her path. When she looked up, she was confronted by Duncan’s scarred face.
“Mr. Lewis?” Liberty exclaimed in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
The realization that Liberty and Duncan were acquainted left everyone stunned.
Ms. Chaplin was horrified and panicking.
The overweight woman knew their CEO!
Duncan said with amusement, “This is my company, so naturally, I’m here. Did you come for an interview? What’s all the commotion about?”
