“Sonny didn’t finish the sandwiches, so I ate his leftovers,” Liberty said.
She didn’t have much of an appetite.
After Sonny, she finished the sandwiches in the lunch box. Liberty was neither hungry nor full; she simply didn’t feel like eating.
Jasmine had already eaten breakfast.
Serenity helped herself to a plate of pasta.
She slurped down the pasta and polished off the entire plate in just a few minutes.
As she cleared away her dirty dishes and washed them in the kitchen, Jasmine entered and whispered, “Seren, did you notice your sister’s swollen eyes? Has she been crying?”
Serenity continued to wash the dishes in silence.
After a while, she softly replied, “Shawn was at a business dinner last night and saw my brother-in-law with another woman. They were quite intimate at the event. It’s hard to believe there’s nothing going on between them. Shawn only remembered who he was when he got home last night and told me. I filled my sister in on everything.”
“Huh?” Jasmine exclaimed. “Your brother-in-law is cheating on her! He proposed splitting expenses and mistreated Liberty. Turns out he’s having an affair!”
Indeed, there were signs when men no longer loved their partners.
“That despicable cheating bastard!”
Without saying a word, Serenity finished cleaning the dishes and stepped out of the kitchen to find Liberty staring blankly into space while holding Sonny in her arms.
Feeling a lump in her throat, Serenity felt a pang of pity for her sister. She felt so bad that tears threatened to spill.
“Seren.”
Jasmine patted her shoulder gently and said, “Now is not the time to be sad.”
Serenity bit her lip, fighting back tears, and then approached Sonny.
“Liberty.”
Liberty didn’t hear her.
“Liberty,” Serenity called out once more.
Snapping back to reality, Liberty turned her face away and quickly wiped away her tears. She replied to her sister as though nothing had happened.
“Liberty, let Jasmine take care of Sonny.”
Taking the hint, Jasmine stepped forward and picked up Sonny, gently coaxing him, “Sonny, would you like to go get a toy?” “Okay!” Sonny exclaimed, his face lighting up at the thought of a new toy.
Cradling Sonny in her arms, Jasmine chatted with him as they exited the bookshop.
Once they had left, Serenity turned to her sister with concern and asked, “What do you plan to do, Liberty?”
“I plan to take your advice and act as if I don’t know anything instead of confronting him. I’m going to gather evidence of his affair and look for a job as soon as possible. I’ll reveal everything once I secure a steady job,” Liberty replied.
She was filled with anger and bitterness.
However, she knew she had to endure it to gain custody of her son.
“Are you going to forgive Hank if he refuses to divorce, claims he’s sorry, says he’ll change, and cuts ties with his other woman?”

Without hesitation, Liberty replied coldly, “No! A leopard doesn’t change its spots! Once a cheater, always a cheater. He already feels ashamed of me and has no real feelings left. It’s pointless to keep him around.”
“No matter what decision you make, I will always stand by you and support you, Liberty.”
