Married at First Sight Chapter 257

Chapter 257
Even though Zachary insisted there was no need for more food, Serenity still decided to order two freshly cooked dishes along with two portions of white rice to take home.
After paying for the meal, she left the restaurant with the packed food and got into her car.
Ring, ring, ring…
Her phone began to ring again.
This time, it was a call from Zachary.
Shawn had come and gone, but Zachary was overly sensitive about the situation, so he couldn’t resist calling Serenity.
“I’m coming back now,” Serenity said immediately, not waiting for Zachary to respond, and promptly hung up.
Zachary, who was abruptly cut off by his wife, stared at his phone in silence for a long moment.
He understood that Serenity was still upset with him.
Their relationship had not truly been reconciled; their current situation was merely a result of Nana’s interference and a mutual respect for her.
Serenity quickly returned to the bookshop.
“Have the leftovers been heated up? We can eat now,”
she asked Zachary, who was sitting behind the counter as she entered with the packed food.
“It’s done,”
Zachary replied. Upon seeing her return, he immediately got up and walked out from behind the counter. He went into the kitchen to grab plates and utensils, then returned to serve the heated food.
Serenity placed the packed food on the counter. Noticing the new dishes, Zachary remarked, “Didn’t I say there was no need to get anything else?”
“I was concerned you might not enjoy leftovers, so I ordered two dishes just for you. The food from this restaurant is really good; I often get takeout from here.”
Upon hearing that the two dishes were specifically ordered for him,

Zachary’s gaze on her intensified.

Both he and his wife were putting in effort to strengthen their relationship. He was changing gradually, just as she was.

“Oh, by the way, a guy stopped by earlier looking for you. He referred to me as brother-in-law,” Zachary said casually while serving some rice to Serenity. “He mentioned he needed something from you, but when I asked him what it was, he didn’t elaborate and left in less than two minutes. Did he contact you? Was it urgent?”

Serenity chose to be honest with him, replying, “That was Shawn. It wasn’t anything urgent. I asked him to reach out to Jasmine for help since I couldn’t assist him with whatever he needed.”

Zachary didn’t press further.

They fell into a brief silence.

After a moment, Zachary decided to inquire.

“What did he want your help with?”

Serenity popped a peeled prawn into her mouth. It was from the leftovers when Zachary had peeled an entire plate of prawns; Sonny couldn’t eat that much, so half of it remained.

She loved prawns.

She loved all kinds of seafood.

“He’s going to a business reception at Wiltspoon Hotel soon and needed a female companion. He wanted to invite me to go with him, but I declined. I’m a married woman now.”

After saying this, Serenity gave Zachary a meaningful look.

He understood the implication behind her words.

His expression remained steady. He didn’t eat less simply because his wife shot him a glance.

Serenity’s honesty improved his mood significantly, and he found himself with a hearty appetite. He relished the two dishes she had specially ordered for him.

The couple finished every last morsel of their meal.

After the meal, Serenity was about to clear the table when Zachary stood up to do it first. “I’ll handle it. You should sit back and relax,” he said.

“You make it sound like you’re afraid I’m about to burst,” she replied.

Zachary smiled, a rare sight indeed. “Honestly, I am worried that you ate so much you might burst.”

“The seafood can’t be kept; it loses its taste after the first meal, let alone overnight. We need to finish it to avoid waste. Seafood is quite expensive right now. Although you may earn a lot, we should still save wherever we can.”

Zachary laughed. “I can still afford to take care of you. If you enjoy seafood, we can buy some for ourselves after this.”

“All the seafood Ms. Stone gave us is fresh; she brought it back specially from the seaside.”
