Married at First Sight Chapter 24

Chapter 24
“I noticed you made a purchase at a clothing store. Did you actually buy clothes? What did you spend that amounted to a thousand dollars? Can’t you try to cut back on your expenses? Do you think I find it easy to earn money?”
“I have a mortgage for our house, a car loan, and I’m also responsible for my parents’ living expenses. Plus, Sonny needs milk powder and diapers! It’s not like you’re helping with the bills. I’m handling everything on my own here. Can’t you at least be a bit more understanding and try to lower your spending?”
Liberty paused her walk and waited for her husband to finish his blame before she explained, “Seren mentioned her husband will be back on Friday. Our families will be meeting for dinner on Saturday. As part of Seren’s family, I really hope everything goes smoothly. The clothes I currently own don’t fit me anymore, so I bought two new dresses.”
“I also got you a new suit and tie. Hank, we’ll need to skip visiting your mom this weekend.”
After Liberty’s explanation, Hank muttered something under his breath. Unable to hear him clearly, Liberty asked, “What did you say, Hank?”
“Nothing. Sure, we need to look presentable for the family meeting, but did you really need to buy two outfits? One would have sufficed. You should hurry and start a diet. It’s about time you lost some weight so you can fit into your old clothes. You have some nice pieces that are a shame to go unworn.”
“Look at you. All you do is eat, sleep, and spend. Are you a pig? At least a pig can be sold for its meat. You’re just a worthless pig.”
Hank’s disdain was evident as he reflected on Liberty’s fuller figure. When it came to intimacy, he wouldn’t even touch her unless he was struggling to control himself. The stunning, vibrant, and beautiful Liberty he once knew seemed long gone!
It never crossed his mind that in just three short years of marriage, his wife had transformed into someone he barely recognized!

Mom and my sister were spot on about Liberty’s excessive eating. After all, she wasn’t contributing financially; Liberty brought nothing to the table.

“Mr. Brown,” came the sweet voice of Hank’s secretary as she entered the office. Hank turned to his wife, Liberty, and bluntly stated, “I need to get back to work. Please hurry home and prepare dinner. I don’t want to return to an empty house. Who knows what you’re up to all day?”

With that, Hank ended the call abruptly, cutting off Liberty before she could respond.

“Mr. Brown, please review this document and sign if everything looks good,” the young secretary said, sliding a document across Hank’s desk.

“Sure,” Hank replied, taking a moment to look over the papers before signing them. He then handed the documents back to the secretary, along with a Tiffany box he had pulled from his drawer.

“Jess, I happened to pass by the jeweler after closing a deal last night and picked up this gold necklace for you. What do you think?” Hank said, giving her a captivating look.

Jessica opened the Tiffany box, revealing the beautiful gold necklace. A smile lit up her face as she took it out.

Hank stood up, moved around the desk, and gently took the necklace from her hands. “Let me help you with that,” he offered thoughtfully.

“Alright,” she agreed.

As he fastened the necklace around Jessica’s neck, he kissed her cheek and added, “You look beautiful. The necklace suits you perfectly.”

Standing tall, Jessica turned to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. She leaned in for a kiss on his cheek and sweetly thanked him, “Thank you, Mr. Brown. I love the necklace.”

“Just call me Hank when no one’s around,” he replied, pulling her close into an embrace, a charming smile gracing his face.

His primal urge took over as he leaned in, drawing close to her ear to whisper something.

Jessica swiftly pushed him back, her lips pursed in a pout. “You have a wife and a child,” she exclaimed. “We agreed to keep this just platonic and nothing more.”
