Married at First Sight Chapter 1697

Married at First Sight by Gu Lingfei Chapter 1697
Mr. Lewis felt an overwhelming sense of unease upon hearing his son’s screams.
Duncan, a tall and rugged man, had lost considerable weight after more than ten days in the hospital.
Anyone who cared for him would feel discomfort upon seeing him in his current state. He could no longer stand and had lost his previous vitality.
His eyes, once full of life, now reflected a sense of despair.
The doctor had initially stated that his chances of a full recovery depended heavily on his ability to regain confidence, persist in leg treatment, and engage in rehabilitation.
It would be a long journey.
It was possible for days to pass without any progress, which could easily lead to a breakdown.
“Husband, please don’t blame Duncan,” Mrs. Lewis urged her husband. “It’s my fault. Duncan said he wasn’t hungry anymore, but I insisted on feeding him.”
Mrs. Lewis took full responsibility for the situation.
Duncan glanced at his mother but quickly looked away, unable to meet her gaze again.
Although it was his mother who thought he was going to see Liberty and tried to stop him, leading to his car accident, he knew that the greater fault lay with him. He had been driving too fast, and in an emergency, even a sudden brake could lead to rear-ending another vehicle.
It was a blessing that he hadn’t died.
The bodyguard entered the room and hesitated for a moment before softly approaching Duncan. “Fourth Young Master, Second Young Master York, Callum has come to see you.”
He refrained from mentioning that Zachary was also present.
Callum had not been in Wiltspoon lately; those unaware of the situation would assume he had been on a business trip and had just returned. Given the relationship between the two families, it was entirely normal for Callum to visit.

The hospital visit was for Duncan.

Duncan stated coldly, “I don’t want to see him, and I don’t want to see anyone. Just let him go.”

After a brief silence, the bodyguard replied, “Eldest Young Master York and Mrs. Eldest Young Mistress are also here.”

Duncan retorted, “I don’t want to see anyone. I don’t want to face their sympathetic gazes. I don’t need sympathy!”

When the bodyguard spoke again, Duncan erupted in anger, prompting the bodyguard to growl loudly.

“Duncan,” Mr. Lewis shouted.

However, Mrs. Lewis quickly instructed the bodyguard, “Go out and tell Zachary and Callum that Duncan won’t see any guests.”

She followed the bodyguard out of the ward.

Upon seeing the York brothers, Mrs. Lewis broke down in tears.

“Zachary, Callum, I don’t even know what to do,” she said while wiping her tears and choking up.

Serenity offered her a tissue and reassured her, “Auntie, Duncan will get better soon.”

“His mental state has collapsed, and he refuses to listen to anything. He keeps saying he’s disabled and struggles to sit up. He claims he can’t walk normally and has lost his self-confidence,” Mrs. Lewis lamented, tears streaming down her face once more.

Duncan’s breakdown weighed heavily on Mrs. Lewis as well.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis tended to their son daily without help from maids or needing their other sons to step in, believing they were responsible for their youngest son’s situation.

Mrs. Lewis insisted on caring for him until he recovered, as it provided her with some solace.

The York brothers offered comforting words to Mrs. Lewis.
